Retro Review: Passenger 57

Ah, the early 90s. A time when Hollywood action movies were going through Die Hard Syndrome. What is Die Hard Syndrome? Well, let me tell you! The Bruce Willis action flick was such a big hit that Hollywood producers, directors and actors were out to duplicate it in whatever way, shape or form they could think of. We had Die Hard on a Boat (Under Siege), Die Hard on a Bus (Speed) and, as is the case with Passenger 57, Die Hard on a Plane.

The Expendables 3 and the Lance Henriksen interview

Jason and Shawn are back in The Basement for this, The August Special. What? They said they were taking the summer off? You should know Jason and Shawn better than that by now. Although this episode features The Basement Boys' thoughts on a major new release and revisits a conversation with a screen legend, the purpose behind The August Special is to discuss what fans can expect from this, the show's sixth season. All we'll reveal here is that some things will change, and some things won't.

Reload with The Expendables 3 trailer

Not a teaser . Not a teaser for a teaser. This is the real deal. A full-on trailer for The Expendables 3 and let me tell you it's . . . . Well, let's let you watch it first and we'll continue from there. Me English read good.

Scope out these bad ass Expendables 3 character posters

As those Saturday morning cartoon toy commercials used to say, there's 16 in all. But we in The Basement proudly bring you four character posters for The Expendables 3 featuring some of the biggest stars in what is arguably a movie chock full of genre legends. I mean, come on, we've got:

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford are Expendable

It's Friday, and it's a long weekend here in our home and native land, so let's get with the beering. But before we do, we want you to focus your eye holes on this: Pretty cool yes!?! That's The Terminator and Indiana Jones on the set of The Expendables 3 with director Patrick Hughes. Bad ass. Arnie has his trademark stogie and Ford is in a flight suite. What all this means to The Expendables 3 has yet to be determined, but it's cool. Now get your asses out there and end the summer holidays in style. The Expendables 3, which also stars Sylvester Stallone , Jason Statham , Jet Li , Wesley Snipes , Dolph Lundgren, Antonio Banderas and Mel Gibson, hits theatres next Aug. 14. Jason Statham almost drowns on The Expendables 3

Action movies can be a thrill to watch and to make. This is something I learned during my brief stint on Billy Trigger last year. But they can also be dangerous, and today's incident on the set of The Expendables 3 is a reminder of that. Reports are coming out of Europe that action star and all around tough guy Jason Statham nearly drowned while filming a sequence of the action threequel in Bulgaria . The scene required Statham's character to fall into some water. A stuntman was ready to do the gag but Statham, a former member of the British national dive team, wanted to do it himself. Details are sketchy here, but Statham apparently didn't resurface after he hit the water and had to be fished out. He was taken to hospital, but returned to work later in the day. You really can't keep a bad ass down. I'm sure I speak for everyone in The Basement when I say we're glad The Stath is A-OK. The Expendables 3, which also stars Sylvester Stallone , Jet Li ...

Shooting begins on The Expendables 3

That's in a cinematic sense, although I'm sure the testosterone-induced cast of Sly Stallone 's latest entry in the action franchise are also firing guns on set as filming gets underway in Bulgaria. Yeah, the above photo is from the set. As we've previously reported, Red Hill director Patrick Hughes is at the helm and Stallone, Jason Statham , Jet Li , Dolph Lundgren and Arnold Schwarzenegger are back for another go-around. Joining them are Wesley Snipes , Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson as the main bad dude. To celebrate, The Basement brings you the official synopsis for The Expendables 3. This way you'll know what to expect when the flick hits theatres next August. Feast your eye holes on this: Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced t...

The Expendables 3 gets a release date

You read about this already you say? Tough! You haven't heard the news Basement style! So sit your ass down and deal with the fact that we're telling you the latest exercise in old people blowing shit up opens Aug. 15, 2014. And The Expendables 3 reunites series mainstays Sylvester Stallone , Jason Statham and Jet Li. Along for the ride are Mickey Rourke , Wesley Snipes , Jackie Chan , and Nicolas *spits* Cage. Veteran action hottie Mila Jovovich is in negotiations to join the cast and rumour has it Fat Steven Seagal buried the hatchet with Stallone and could come on board. Someone must have told him they're serving chicken. No word yet on what it's about, but we don't really care. We've already marked the date on our respective Basement calendars, because that's what old people do. Red Hill director Patrick Hughes helms the mayhem. Deadfall and Extracted

Because nothing says thrill like a good thriller, Jason and Shawn take a break from the beasts, boobs and blood of the last few weeks to tackle a pair of . . .  well . . .  thrillers. First up is the crime caper Deadfall starring a whole schwack of A-list talent including Eric Bana , Olivia Wilde and Kate Mara . Plus there's Hollywood veterans likes Treat Williams , Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson -- sans Wesley Snipes of course. What's it about? Two siblings decide to fend for themselves in the wake of a botched casino heist. But their paths cross during another family's Thanksgiving celebration. Our next flick comes with a sci-fi twist. Extracted tells the story of scientist who has invented a technique to watch people's memories. He finds himself in a dangerous situation when he's tasked with entering a heroin addict's mind to see whether the man committed murder. And because nothing says Valentine's Day like a B-movie review show ...

Micro Review: Brooklyn's Finest

An absorbing, gritty police drama with bursts of realistic violence. Actually the entire film, with its three intersecting stories, plays stark, honest and brutally real. And, with Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke and Wesley Snipes leading the cast, there's enough intensity and well-acted performances to fill a dozen movies. The film does have its cliched moments, but the strong cast and director Antoine Fuqua's talent for crafting high tension push the picture through them. One of the better cop films since Fuqua's own Training Day. A Good review from The Basement on this one.
