Lord of the Rings meets The Descent in Dragon Mountain

You read that right, it's the high-concept mashup you didn't even know you needed to see . . . coming straight to Video On Demand in August! Yup, director Chris Raney has made a medieval horror flick with dwarves, dragons and something sinister lurking inside a cave, and it's called Dragon Mountain.

Mike S presents: top five actresses I'd like to see in a horror movie

Hey folks, my run of posts for the site will be coming to an end since Jay'll be back from his top secret project soon.  Before then, I wanted to post this Top Five List of actresses I'd like to see in a horror movie.  Now, I'm sure a couple of them have already BEEN in horror movies, but I'd like to see them in something more recent... So, in alphabetical order (by last name of course to satisfy my OCD): 1.  Gillian Anderson -  I think we can all figure out why she's on the list, right?  " The X-Files ".  That and she's hot.  But even more so, she's got the acting chops for a decent horror role.  She can play smart roles perfectly as evidenced by her portrayal of Agent Dana Scully , and is able to balance out quirky characters like Agent Fox Mulder .  In fact, that role helped to demonstrate that she can be extremely versatile, and capable of showing a character's growth during a story with great skill and realism. Oh... and did I...

Behold! The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey trailer

As a somewhat self-respecting film site, we would be stupid not to post the trailer for Peter Jackson's long awaited return to Middle Earth. That said, this isn't the kind of movie we're really all about here in The Basement. We're into the smaller, grislier stuff. With boobies. Still, this is a movie everyone on the planet is likely going to see -- Shawn and I included -- and it's pretty much guaranteed to not suck. So here we go: Pretty damn cool right? Thought so. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens everywhere Dec. 14.

Orcs, anyone?

They failed to chase down Frodo in The Lord of the Rings and have had their numbers decimated on World of Warcraft, so it only makes sense the green-skinned bastards would want some revenge. Hence the new low budget horror-comedy-action flick Orcs. In the film, directed by Andrew Black, a band of the fantasy beasties are terrorizing a national park and the only ones who can stop them are a couple of bungling park rangers. Much mayhem and face eating ensues, so we're told. The film stars Adam Johnson, Maclain Nelson and Renny Richmond. It's due out . . . we're not entirely sure, but there's a preview below for your viewing pleasure.
