The MONTH of HORROR - Day 2: You're Next

Adam Wingard, and Simon Barrett. These guys. I like these guys. It's not that this writer-director duo are revolutionizing horror or anything, nothing like that at all but they are a couple fresh voices within a genre that could use a swift kick in the ass these days. 'You're Next' isn't anything you haven't seen before, from a story perspective, at least however Wingard, and Barrett breathe enough new life into a tired concept to give it a real pulse once again.

Scream queen contest winner comes with Baggage

Y'all remember Jeremiah Kipp, he who won our Win A Chat with a Scream Queen contest back in Season Three and made the exceptional short flick Crestfallen? Well, he's back! I just had the pleasure of watching Jeremiah's latest short, Baggage -- a groovy 14-minute throwback to the tales found on Alfred Hitchcock Presents, only bloodier and a titch more disturbing. Rob Dimension plays Benjamin, a normal guy trying to live his life and fit into society. We get to spend one day with Benjamin, and witness how his simple existence unfolds with unsettling results. Baggage is more of a straight-up genre piece than Crestfallen, and plays within the conventions of what we expect. It's expertly made. As with any good Hitchcock tale, nothing is quite as it seems. I figured out the twist right away, but was still pulled along for the ride. And yeah, the last shot got me. Got ...

Three creepy posters say You're Next

We haven't dropped any news about You're Next , the latest effort from director Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett, in what seems like years. So colour us satisfied when three new posters appeared online promoting the film. When the Davison family comes under attack during their wedding anniversary getaway, the gang of mysterious killers soon learns that one of victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back. Us Basementites dig the whole fighting back part, as not enough would-be victims do that in horror movies . And the cast -- which includes genre veterans AJ Bowen and Barbara Crampton -- is decent. Wingard and Barrett are two for two with me, as I dug V/H/S and A Horrible Way to Die. You're Next hits theatres Aug. 23, so expect the publicity machine to start rolling pretty quick. Until then, enjoy the trio of promotional pictures below. Source: IMP Awards Related articles Character Posters For The Horror Thriller YOU'RE NEXT SXS...
