New promos, demo weekend for Predator: Hunting Grounds

I don't know about you, but one thing I've been doing a lot more of these days is playing video games. And one game I now HAVE TO get my mitts on is Predator: Hunting Grounds. The game hits PS4 and PC in April, but there's a free trial weekend March 27 to 29 for PlayStation players. The trial can be downloaded this Friday in Japan at 3 p.m. JST, in Europe at 4 p.m. GMT, and in North America at 5 p.m. PST. You can find additional details on the PlayStation blog . The demo allows you to play a Fireteam, who take on the Predator, or you can be the Predator hunting the Fireteam while they complete missions. Both the Predator and Fireteam have their own classes to choose from. Enough of my yammering. Check out these sweet, sweet promos. Looks slick to me! And I love the update of the classic Predator theme. So who's with me in saying April 24 can't come soon enough? Source: PlayStation

Movies and The Outdoor Narrative

Let's be honest, we can't sit inside all day, every day, and watch movies and TV all the time. Sooner or later, you gotta go outside. And when Shawn and I do, we like to dabble in hunting and fishing. My friend and former colleague Robert Koopmans is a bonafide, honest-to-goodness outdoorsman. He's an avid hunter and fisherman, and he started an excellent outdoor-themed podcast called The Outdoor Narrative .

Why we think The Predator fizzled

Shane Black brought the 80s back to cinemas in high style this past weekend with The Predator, a sequel to the hit 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger flick which Black co-starred in. The film had everything we in The Basement love -- boat loads of action and explosions, gore, profanity and lots of it, and machismo to spare. Mike S and I love the hell out of the movie, as did those of us with similar sensibilities.

The Predator gets a second trailer

Been at war with stomach flu and a head cold (yes, all at once) this weekend, so finally at a point where I had the energy to get up and post something. Given The Predator was granted a second trailer by the folks at 20th Century Fox, I figured I'd tackle that. The teaser for Shane Black's sequel to the 1987 action classic came out a month ago, and left a lot of people underwhelmed. I'm not sure why, or what said people expected, as it worked for me. There was action, the titular monster, and some trademark Black humour. I got what I wanted.

Here we go again bro: The Predator is coming

A couple of years ago we reported screenwriter/director Shane Black was tapped to helm a sequel to the 1987 action classic Predator. Well, an update has arrived in a BIG way. How big? How about a teaser image promising the movie is indeed being made. Yup. Check it out:

Shane Black's Predator flick a sequel, not a reboot

A quick update on a story we posted yesterday, it sounds like that Predator reboot that'll be co-written and directed by Shane Black isn't a reboot at all. It's a sequel! The talented folks at Collider caught up with Black after yesterday's announcement, and he told them he and co-writer Fred Dekker see no point in starting the franchise over. Black adds he "really gets behind inventive sequels ."

Shane Black takes on the Predator reboot

Alright, here's one reboot I can actually get behind. And it's not because I think Predator needs to be remade. No sir. It's about as perfect an action/sci-fi/horror flick as we're ever likely to see. Period. What has me excited for the new Predator is the man 20th Century Fox has tapped to co-write and direct the movie -- Shane Black .

The Shadowing has a producer, director and poster

As some of you may know, I don't just review movies and look good for my age. I'm also a screenwriter with a couple of projects on the go, one of which has taken a big step toward hitting the silver screen. Producer Christopher White of MTV's My Super Psycho Sweet 16 and The ABCs of Death has teamed up with my bro John Fallon (that's us sharing a drink in the picture above) and his company Bruise Productions to bring The Shadowing to life.

Schwarzenegger on board for Toxic Avenger reboot?

You read that right. Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to star in a remake of the Troma Films cult classic , The Toxic Avenger . Wanna fight about it? I'm not bullshitting you. The man who played The Terminator , John Matrix and Dutch from Predator is interested in co-starring in a new take on The Toxic Avenger. Note co-starring, as word has it Arnold won't be the Toxic Avenger himself. He'll be an exterminator, apparently. Get it? From Terminator to an exterminator. Ha! Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink co-wrote the new Toxic Avenger and will direct. I really liked Hot Tub Time Machine, and have not seen the original Toxic Avenger, so with Schwarzenegger on board, I'd give this a watch. The plot of the original Toxic Avenger is as follows: The Toxic Avenger is born when mop boy Melvin Junko falls into a vat of toxic waste. Now evildoers will have a lot to lose. So says the IMDb . Micro Review: Predators

Finally, after two decades of suckypairings with Fox's other alien franchise, we get a real sequel to John McTiernan's 1987 action classic. And it's a doozy too as producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal return the title monster to its roots, creating tension and mystery about the beasts while crafting a kick-ass tribute to the original. The film employees music and visual cues from Predator, adding a sense of nostalgia to the proceedings. Antal is also willing to shoot the film "old school," using cinematic techniques and effects which make the movie feel like it could have been made 20 years ago. Predators is a B-movie that knows its job and does it well, executing its simple premise with flare. A Good review from The Basement.
