Family Movie Night: Onward

We've started a new tradition in our house during this COVID-19 crisis, and that's a night where we gather and watch a movie the whole family can enjoy. Hence we call it Family Movie Night. The films aren't limited to cartoons and traditional kid movies. My boy is eight, so he can get into a variety of films. But we started with Disney and Pixar's Onward, as it just hit streaming, and comes from a reliable brand. Hands down, this is one of Pixar's best. It has humour everyone can enjoy, some vibrant animation, and a solid, fun and surprisingly emotional story. All things one expects from Pixar, only more so. The world of Onward is much like our own, only with fantasy beings living in a world with vehicles, houses, phones and computers, because using them proved easier than conjuring their own special kind of magic. However, Elvin teenage brothers Ian and Barley need to seek out some magic in order to spend one more day with their deceased father. It'...

The Animated Addict: The Incredibles 2 (2018)

I'm going to say up front that this is one animated film that I was super looking forward to watching and reviewing, since I loved the first one... but you know what they say about getting what you wish for... After being arrested for a battle with The Underminer, the Parrs face a return to a mundane existence... until Winston Deavor approaches them with a plan to make "supers" legal again. While Helen returns to duty as Elastigal, Bob adjusts to "normal" life as a father... with superpowered kids...

Animated Addict: "Up" (2009)

The Animated Addict is back in town, and in the Basement with another review!  Today, I'm going to take a quick look to the skies as I review Pixar's 2009 release, " Up "! Carl met the love of his life at the age of nine.  Ellie was fearless, adventurous, and energetic... and she had her own clubhouse.  They both shared a dream to visit Paradise Falls- a dream they would work to accomplish throughout the length of their relationship. Until tragedy struck the loving couple.

Micro Review: Incredibles 2

Is 14 years too long between movies? Back when The Incredibles came out, there was no MCU, so Pixar's super-hero flick was the biggest and most, well, incredible, depiction of a comic book put on the silver screen. Nowadays, there's a new super-hero movie out every few months, and visual effects are at the point where the four-colour world of comics can be brilliantly realized. Doesn't this hurt the impact of an Incredibles sequel.

Out of The Basement, into the NL studio

Jason and Shawn are back for another forecast of what to watch this weekend, and what was worth noting from the week that was. Say that five times fast! However, there's a bit of twist for this, The Basement Boys second foray on Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops -- they're leaving The Basement and stepping into the NL studio! Today, Jason and Shawn join host Howie Reimer during the NL Morning Show. But fear not, Jason and Shawn are still Jason and Shawn, which means the spirit of The Basement goes where they go. And Howie is a first rate -- and funny -- guy, so the clash of styles will be well worth the listen. What will be discussed? Well, it's radio, so one ever knows. But, given animated sequel The Incredibles 2 and the comedy Tag hit theatres today, something will likely be said about each. You can find out for sure at 8:40 a.m. when you hit the Radio NL logo to your right. You can follow along to the mad tweets of Mike S on Twitter at CameTheBasement . A podcast ver...

Incredibles 2? Finally?

So says this tweet: pic.twitter.com/HzdvF0rvpA Well, that would be nice. Of all the Disney Pixar movies, The Incredibles was an instant classic. It was also my favourite.   Toy Story , Cars , Monsters inc...pretty good. All got sequels . I'm glad to see the one I like most getting some more love.

Wall-E: A children's movie makes the doom and gloom countdown.

9 Animated children's movie, Wall-E, makes the Mayans' apocalyptic countdown list. Yes, a "kids" flick. The reason is, Earth is no longer habitable due to the amount of garbage and pollution we have generated. Humans then evacuated the earth, leaving behind autonomous robots to clean the mess up, in hopes to one day return, when hospitable for life. Meanwhile, humans have become so reliant in their tech, they have evolved shrunken bones and swollen fat. Now barely able to even "walk". This is a future I fear most. Why? Because we are disgusting, fat and lazy. It is sooo much more plausible than most of the movies on this countdown. Yet is still a cute look at robot love. Lol. I've watched this movie, likely, 100 times. I have three kids. They all love to watch it. I never really minded the watch. The lesson I learned: we are a bunch of dirty fucks. Hopefully we can avoid this future. Maybe the Mayans' didn't become exti...
