This is a surprising bit of good news for fans of Guillermo del Toro 's Pacific Rim , a flick much loved by geeks that didn't go over big with the North American moviegoing public. There's going to be a sequel, bitches!

What boy of the nerd variety didn't dream of that glorious day when giant robots would throw down with giant monsters ? For the longest time we were content to watch said combat unfold in low budget Japanese movies and kiddie cartoons. Then along comes director Guillermo del Toro and the game changes. As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse. OK, Pacific Rim is far from perfect. The first half focuses way too much on the puny humans and Top Gun rivalries. And lets' face it, we know we're watching nothing but a bunch of special effects when it comes to the smashing. This makes it hard, at least for yours truly, to get too wrapped up in the action. These quibbles aside, Pacific Rim is the cat's ass. This movie is fun. And it fulfilled my childhood dream of watching monsters versus rob...

I was sold on Guillermo del Toro 's Pacific Rim because of the giant-robots -versus- giant-monsters concept. The first trailer delivered that. Now we've got the Wondercon trailer and oh my Christ does this ever look fucking awesome. Pardon my French, but wow! Yes, we get more of the story -- like THAT matters in a movie like this -- but, most importantly, we get more giant-robots-versus-giant-monsters goodness. THAT is what we're paying to see on July 12. THAT is all I care about. And del Toro WILL deliver. This trailer tells me so. When an alien attack threatens the Earth's existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace. Cut, and print! Be honest here, who's excited for Pacific Rim? All of you? I've avoided discussing the latest Guillermo del Toro epic simply because I wanted to have some footage to put what is literally one of the most bad to the ass movie ideas ever in context. Monster have come to Earth. We've built giant robots to fight them with. Cue action. Now Warner Bros. has put out a trailer for the upcoming summer blockbuster, and holy shit fuck, as Basement Contributor Matt Bellamy would say. Or maybe it was holy shit wow. Either way. Holy shit! This looks great. Simply great. We've got monsters, giant robots and combat. What more could one ask for in a blockbuster? Boobs. Well, everything is better with boobs. You read that here first. Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Idris Elba, giant robots, and a bunch of monsters. It opens July 12, and my ass will be there. Now watch this epic shit! Kudos to Warner Bros.
