It's catch-up time in The Basement as Jason, Shawn and Amy tackle a couple of somewhat recent releases that begin with the letter M. Yeah, as the headline says, they're talking about Maggie and Machete Kills.

Heard plays a character called, appropriately enough, Miss San Antonio in the flick, which brings back scary dude Danny Trejo as Machete. This time he's recruited by the U.S. government to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space. So it's only fitting that I post this, the latest, poster for the upcoming sequel Machete Kills . That's right, Michelle Rodriguez is back as Shé, Machete's sexy and tough-as-nails sidekick. From the footage here, if you dug Machete, you'll likely dig Machete Kills. Now we've got the crew of the Evil Dead remake tweeting about the film's rating etc. As Ash would say, groovy! Speaking of groovy, Ash himself -- Bruce Fucking Campbell -- tweeted today that the Evil Dead remake will hit a week early. That's April 5 to be exact. Apparently we demanded it. I'm not being sarcastic either. Machete was hardly a masterpiece, but it was still a fun ride. And it gave five-times-one-scary-dude Danny Trejo a much-needed lead role. To have him back in the saddle is a blessing. I don't know what it is about the hot actresses from the sequel Machete Kills taking pictures of themselves and posting them to the Interwebs . . . but none of us here in The Basement are complaining. First it was Alexa Vega strutting her stuff as Killjoy, and now it's Playboy model Crystal McCahill, who appears as a character called Mendez's Wife. She posted the below pic via Instagram and our friends at Arrow in the Head got a hold of it. And now we have it. Very nice! And yes, that's what passes for movie news on this Jan. 2. Deal with it. Machete Kills, which features the talents of Vega, McCahill, Amber Heard, Jessica Alba, Mel Gibson and of course Danny Trejo, is scheduled for release some time this year.

In what's really nothing more than an excuse to show a picture of a hot chick, we've scored (stole really) this image of Alexa Vega: Former Spy Kid from the upcoming grindhouse sequel Machete Kills.  The star uploaded the image to her Twitter stream, and she is certainly all growed up -- unlike me, for making comments like that. No word yet on who Killjoy is or how she fits into the whole crazy plot of Machete Kills.  Vega is joined in the mayhem by Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, William Sadler, Edward James Olmos, Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan and Electra Avellan. The whole thing comes from producer Robert Rodriguez of course. Machete Kills follows ex-federale Machete (Trejo), as he's recruited by the U.S. government to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, who happens to be Mexico’s leading cartel dealer. The flick is due out next year.

Because one story about Amber Heard a week isn't enough . . . the genre fave and all-around hottie has signed on for the much-anticipated sequel, Machete Kills. And she's in good babe company too, joining series' veterans Jessica Alba and Shawn's fave, Michelle Rodriguez. Heard will play an assassin code-named Miss San Antonio. Also along for the ride are Machete himself, Danny Trejo, and legendary action dude Mel Gibson. That's right, Mel Gibson. The story, as we've previously reported, is as follows: "Machete is recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy." Machete Kills is due out next year.

The Robert Rodriguez-produced Machete is Shawn's favourite flick of 2010 despite the presence of Fat Steven Seagal. I was entertained by it but wouldn't call it Top-10-of-any-year material. But I assure you we're both excited to see Danny Trejo return to the role he was born to play in the aptly titled Machete Kills. All we really know is the flick is scheduled to shoot in April and the plot is as follows: "Machete is recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy."
