OK, we're big fans of Jamie Bernadette here in The Basement. That's something we haven't tried to hide. Which is why it pains me to say her latest effort, Dead by Dawn, just isn't that good. The premise holds promise, as a man heads to his remote cabin wanting to commit suicide. His plans are put on hold, though, when he's forced to protect a kidnapped woman from a trio of sexual deviants and their sadistic games. What unfolds is one part Last House on the Left, and another part I Spit on Your Grave, less the impact of those earlier films. For the most part, Dead by Dawn lacks any real thrills to hold your attention until the final 10 minutes. Then all hell breaks loose, and the film actually gains some momentum. This week Jamie Bernadette has proved us right with a trailer and poster for yet another movie she's starring in, and this time she's one of the bad guys! Dead by Dawn is about a suicidal man in a remote cabin who must protect a kidnapped woman from three killers and their sadistic games. Sounds like our pint of ale, but how does it look? When one of your favourites puts a call out asking if anyone is interested in sharing the teaser for her new movie, you answer. Which is why we're proud to present the teaser for Jamie Bernadette's upcoming sci-fi flick Colonials. She's one of the leads in directors Joe Bland and Andrew Balek's film. What's it about? A space colonist en route to Mars crash lands on Earth to save a resistance from an advanced Moon enforcer, and the galaxy from extinction. Now the teaser: Looks pretty slick! We in The Basement have become pretty big Jamie Bernadette fans of late. She's a talented actor, and can do anything from horror to drama. We respect that! Her latest film is a horror movie written by Bret Miller and directed by Harley Wallen. Currently in post production and without a release date, we do have a new poster for your eye holes, and are compelled to share it with you now: The plot: a troubled teenager is taken to the peace and quiet of the country by her father and step mother in an effort to calm down her wild streak. But after she crosses the infamous McKinley family, it becomes clear that danger lies hidden in the weeds, ready to strike at any moment. Sounds promising, and with Jamie on board, we're on board. 2019 is almost a memory, and it was a good year for our show. This is the year Shawn and I realized our long-term goal of taking things prime time, which we did in early November on the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops, and there was much rejoicing. It was also a year where we interviewed some truly awesome people, including Jamie Bernadette, Darren Lynn Bousman, Trista Robinson, Jennifer N. Linch and Eric Red. We reviewed a lot of good movies, a few great ones, and a handful of duds. Such is the business. Our listenership continues to grow, and we couldn't be more thankful for that. We've been doing this a long time. When our podcast drops Saturday morning, it'll mark our 10th anniversary. Basement guest Jamie Bernadette has to be one of the busiest, hardest-working people in Hollywood. I've lost count of how many movies she has out this year. At least a couple after The 6th Friend, which we reviewed right here . Interviewing the actor/producer/writer about that flick was certainly a highlight of the year. I've seen a lot of slasher movies in my time, and understand the formula pretty well. Halloween defined the genre, Friday the 13th took it to new levels, and the Scream franchise added a wink and a nudge. I've seen them all, so it's tough to get me hooked on one. The latest entry in the slasher cannon, Jamie Bernadette's The 6th Friend, attempts to blend elements from all these legendary titles into something new and fresh, and for the most part, this movie succeeds.

Sometimes the formula works, sometimes it doesn't.
