About that Happy Death Day 2U trailer

Sequels, especially horror sequels, and especially especially slasher-movie sequels, are usually the first movie repeated. As much as  I love 'em, the Friday the 13th and Halloween parts two through 20 are pretty much just the first movie done again, and again, and again. And, on the surface, that's what Happy Death Day 2U appears to be too. Take Happy Death Day and repeat it. It is Happy Death Day 2 after all.

Jason versus Edge of Tomorrow

Fellow Basementites Matt Bellamy and Lachlan Labere already sounded off on the latest Tom Cruise sci-fi epic Edge of Tomorrow. They've talked at length about the Groundhog Day aspects of the movie and the love/hate thingy audiences have for Cruise. I'm gonna hit this movie from the only angle I know -- the gut. An officer finds himself caught in a time loop during a war with an alien race . His skills increase as he faces some brutal combat scenarios, and his union with a Special Forces warrior gets him closer and closer to defeating the enemy.

Jason versus Haunter

Everybody likes a good ghost story, right? Well, how about a story where pretty much everyone is a ghost? That's the premise behind Cube and Splice director Vincenzo Natali 's Haunter . Original, yes. Any good? Stick with me. The ghost of a teenager who died years ago reaches out to the land of the living in order to save someone from suffering her same fate.

Live, die, repeat in this Edge of Tomorrow trailer

Between Godzilla and Doug Liman 's Edge of Tomorrow, Warner Bros' is looking pretty damn good for the summer of 2014. Granted, I preferred the title All You Need Is Kill over Edge of Tomorrow, but what the deuce do I know.  Tom Cruise and the yum that is Emily Blunt star in this sci-fi tale about a soldier who finds himself in a time loop of the last day of his battle with aliens. Think Groundhog Day with guns and alien invaders, and you still won't come close to how awesome this movie looks. No disrespect to Groundhog Day. Edge of Tomorrow also stars Bill Paxton , Kick Gurry , Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley , Jonas Armstrong and Franz Drameh . The flick opens June 6. Jason and Shawn review: Alien 3000 and Groundhog Day

Alien 3000 Shawn: Every group of friends have their rules of friendship. Jason earned his friends' points by introducing Alien 3000 to me because he and Anthony Michael Bosa believe it's the worst movie ever made. Any movie that opens with a boob shot followed by some decent gore can't be the worst movie ever. But this is a shit movie; one of the worst I've seen in a long time. Aside from the gore and boobies, everything else about it is pretty bad. The worst thing is everyone in the movie takes it so seriously despite how bad it all is. This rates an Ugly, but The Lady with the Terrible Titties is still worse. Jason: Worst. Movie. Ever. I thought that when Anthony Michael Bosa showed it to me in 2005 after claiming the same. And I think it now after doing my due diligence and showing it to dude. It's a study in bad. Bad acting. Bad direction. Bad special effects. Bad dialogue. Bad idea. It steals elements from Aliens, Predator and Independence Day among ot...

Movies You Need To See Before You Die Vol. 2

Late last season Jason and Shawn shared with their fellow Basement Dwellers two movies they believe everyone needs to see before they die. The films were Enter the Dragon and Running Scared, and the response was so positive the duo decided to pick two more movies they consider required viewing before death, only this time with a twist. How Shyamalan you say? Quite. Shawn rolls with the 1993 Bill Murray comedy classic Groundhog Day. Such a light, sentimental choice might seem out of place coming from a beast, boob and blood loving dude like Shawn. In fact, what is up with that!?! Wanna find out? Stick with us! Meanwhile, Jason brings an out-of-left-field choice with Alien 3000. The same Alien 3000 he and Anthony Michael Bosa say is the worst movie ever made? Indeed. Then why does it need to be a movie everyone watches before he or she dies? Well, you'll just have to tune in. Thanks to Moe Porn from Drunk On VHS for tracking down Alien 3000. He will also sound off on the ...
