Night School, Smallfoot and Hell Fest

What happens when a couple of aging film geeks get philosophical, and start talking UFOs, science, God and life after death? The end of society as we know it? Yet are still able to tie it all into film and entertainment? That is a question best asked before tuning into this, the extended cut of Friday's We Came from the Basement segment on the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops.

Jason and Shawn versus House of Good and Evil

House of Good and Evil Jason: House of Good and Evil is an interesting beast. It's a great example of how you write and direct a low-budget feature. One location, for the most part anyway, and a limited cast. This is pretty much a one-woman show. And Rachel Marie Lewis just kills it. She's hot, and she can act the pants off a businessman in Vegas. Gotta love a chick with that kind of talent. The flick has its flaws. It's too long and borders on melodrama at times. There's a big third-act twist that I won't give away. You'll dig it or you won't. At first I did, but the more I thought about it, the more annoyed I became. By the time everything sunk in, I felt I'd wasted my time. I wanted to give House of Good and Evil a Good because I dug so much of it, but the ending left me cold. A Bad it is. Shawn : Without spoiling this movie , those who know me, know this is my least favorite style of movie. A time waster. This movie could be subject to two ...

UPDATED: House of Good and Evil gets a facelift

In the form of this slick -- and a little creepy -- poster that is. The new image coincides with writer/producer Blu de Golyer 's psycho thriller being named an official selection at next month's Arizona International Film Festival , so that's two pieces of good news for de Glyyer and director David Mun. House of Good and Evil follows the story of a young couple who move from the fast-paced life of the city to an isolated home nestled deep in the woods of Appalachia in a last-chance effort to save their deteriorating marriage. They quickly find out extraordinary evil has followed them to their new address. The flick stars Rachel Marie Lewis, Christian Oliver , Marietta Marich , Jordan Rhodes , Rob Neukirch and Bo Keister. Jason versus Sinister

When so many lightweight PG-13 films have permeated the horror genre it's refreshing to come across one that tries to grab you by the balls and drag you into some dark corner. Sinister attempts to do that, and mostly succeeds. A true- crime writer finds a cache of 8mm "snuff" films that suggest the murder he is currently researching is the work of a serial killer whose career dates back to the 1960s. Co-writer/director Scott Derrickson does a few things wrong but a whole lot right. On the downside, everything is too God damn dark in Sinister. Sometimes it's hard to tell what's going on. Would someone turn on a light already? Jesus ! That gripe aside, I like that Derrickson takes his time with this picture. Nothing happens quickly. The entire film is a slow burn as we discover what's going on along with Ethan Hawke 's writer. And what's going on is pretty much, well, Sinister. There's some great scares in this movie. I particularly...
