Shawn and I took in the flick Flay several months back and, although the movie held some promise, we felt underwhelmed by how safe it played its cards. Flay was Eric Pham's first feature as a director and hey, a guy's gotta start somewhere. He actually got into the industry by way of working in special effects, and cut his teeth on some big projects like Sin City and Spy Kids. We caught up with Eric to talk his career, and see where Flay is at in terms of distribution. you can read what he had to say below:

It's rare a film comes along that I want to like, but end of hating beyond even words. Flay happens to be one of them. Which is too bad, as I am interested in the Slender Man mythos and believe there's a good movie in the idea. But Sony, who blocked the release of Flay because they own the rights to the Slender character, couldn't make a good film out of it either, so what do I know. Not a question, a fact.

Only one big release in theatres, but still lots of all things entertainment to talk about. Not to mention an exclusive movie to review. Competing films with similar ideas are nothing new in Hollywood, which is why it's surprising that Sony would get so worked up about director Eric Pham's Flay. Sure, Sony has the rights to the Slender Man character, but nowhere is Slender even mentioned in the marketing for Flay. Yeah, the villain in Pham's film looks a lot like the Creepypasta character, but the asteroids in Armageddon and Deep Impact looked similar too... as did all the stuff that blew up.
