Jason and Shawn versus The Collection and The Frankenstein Theory

The Collection Shawn: Talk about GORNOPOLIS! Ha ha . Just when I think I needed it the most. Sure, The Collector , (prequel), isn't even worth the memory of my watch, but don't let that stop you from seeing this. This was put together well. Like the Saw movies , it had satisfying gore. Dug it. Everything looked good, semi real, and just seemed to hit me at the right time. It scored there, then it produced an ending, satisfying my every movie watching need. At the time. Good. Jason: What shocks me most about The Collection is how such a good sequel can be born from what was, ultimately, just an OK first film. The Collection is one of the most bad to the ass horror sequels I've seen in a long, long time. I'm beginning to think that the best horror films are no longer than 80 minutes. This is a tight, exciting and, at times, cringe-inducing flick. I dig that shit. But what's most awesome about Marcus Dunstan 's sequel is the ending. Finally, we g...

The Collection, The Frankenstein Theory and an interview with Andrew Weiner

Never underestimate the power of social media. Doesn't mean you have to like it, let alone understand it, but don't underestimate it. A chance encounter on Twitter led to tonight's feature interview with Andrew Weiner, director of The Frankenstein Theory , which also happens to be one of two movies on the chopping block tonight. Shawn sat down with Andrew for about 45 minutes, and it's a conversation for the ages, according to the Bad Man himself. However, being a 60-minute radio show/podcast, you only get to hear about 18 minutes of the interview. The Basement Boys will post the talk in its entirety at a later date. Stick with us! As for the movies, first up is the horror sequel The Collection. A man who escaped from the vicious grips of the serial killer known as The Collector is blackmailed into rescuing an innocent girl from the killer's booby-trapped warehouse. The first film, The Collector, was so so. Only time, and Jason and Shawn, will tell if this...

A clip from The Collection flickers its way online

The more I see of Marcus Dunstan's sequel The Collection the keener I am to watch it. As we've said here before, The Collector was OK at best, but this flick looks to up the ante. That's fine with us! The sequel picks up soon after The Collector ends. Arkin (Josh Stewart) escapes with his life from the vicious grips of The Collector during an entrapment party where the villain adds beautiful Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick, pictured above) to his collection. Instead of recovering from the trauma, Arkin is suddenly abducted from the hospital by mercenaries hired by Elena's wealthy father. Arkin is blackmailed to team up with the mercenaries and track down The Collector's booby trapped warehouse and save Elena. No real dialogue in the clip below, but I dig the flicker effect with the lights and the way The Collector slides his way into the scene. Very John Carpenter. We'll know how the rest of the movie stacks up when The Collection opens Nov. 30.

The Collection trailer will kill your ass!

Mere minutes ago we hit you with the trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Now we're unleashing something that's more our thang on you Basement Dwellers. Marcus Dunstan's The Collector was OK fun. A wee bit unbelievable, but still offered boobies and a grisly death or two. His follow up, The Collection, looks like it's going to be a bat-shit crazy good time! The sequel picks up soon after The Collector ends. Arkin (Josh Stewart) escapes with his life from the vicious grips of The Collector during an entrapment party where the villain adds beautiful Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick) to his collection. Instead of recovering from the trauma, Arkin is suddenly abducted from the hospital by mercenaries hired by Elena's wealthy father. Arkin is blackmailed to team up with the mercenaries and track down The Collector's booby trapped warehouse and save Elena. I'm gonna come out and say it: the first 30 seconds or so of this preview sold me. And the res...
