The Halloween Spooktacular II: Brian Avenet-Bradley

Halloween might have been Saturday night, but we're still celebrating here at From The Basement with this, the podcast version of our annual Halloween Spooktacluar. This year, Jason and Shawn welcome filmmaker Brian Avenet-Bradley, the writer and co-director of the indie horror hit -- and Basement fave -- Echoes of Fear ! Brian discusses the real-life scares he and his wife/filmmaking partner Lo Avenet-Bradley experienced in their home, and how these provided a good portion of the Echoes of Fear script. Just how much the haunted-house thriller is based on real life? Stick with us! And stick around, as The Basement Boys welcome back Dusan Magdolen of the Kamloops Film Society to update listeners on November's programming at the Paramount Theatre. And Mike S provides one last horror-themed review in the form of The Last Broadcast, and early found-footage movie Brian has a surprise connection to. That's right, it's time for Jason and Shawn's annual Halloween Spooktacular, and they've brought someone who knows a thing or two about scaring people into the studio this eve. Brian Avenet-Bradley (pictured above with actress and past-Basement guest Trista Robinson) wrote and co-directed the brilliant indie horror flick Echoes of Fear . And tonight he shares the creepy stories that prompted him to write this acclaimed chiller. That's right, the haunted-house thriller was inspired by events that really happened to Brian and his wife/filmmaking partner Lo Avenet-Bradley, and you're going to hear them tonight. What are they? Stick with us! And don't you dare touch that dial, as The Basement Boys welcome back Dusan Magdolen of the Kamloops Film Society as he provides a rundown on what films will screen at...

Marshal Hilton takes A Clear Shot at The Basement

A couple of weeks back Shawn and I reviewed the new action/drama A Clear Shot. You can hear our thoughts here , and read them here . We'll pause while you do that. OK! A Clear Shot starred Mario Van Peebles and past Basement guest Marshal Hilton, who discussed his pivotal role in last fall's horror hit Echoes of Fear right here . It was a great conversation with a true professional, and proved popular with fans. Marshal is coming back to the show to discuss his role in A Clear Shot, working with the great Mario Van Peebles, and his character in another recent release, the Bigfoot flick Primal Rage. He and I also talk machismo and the current political climate when it comes to race and policing. This is a great conversation with a talented guy, and friend, who's not afraid to say what he thinks. And audiences will hear it NEXT FRIDAY, June 26, only on Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops! Stick with us!

Our love of the low-budget indie horror Echoes of Fear knows no bounds. Trista Robinson returns and The Lodge

We're all about the scream queens this week, as Jason and Shawn make the leap from last night's broadcast on the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops to our latest podcast From The Basement! And they've got even more of Jay's conversation with Echoes of Fear star Trista Robinson. Trista discusses her latest movie, Human Zoo, which is out now on Digital and VOD. Plus she talks up her upcoming movies, and her passion for paranormal investigation! That's right, this movie star is also a ghost hunter. Can she get any cooler. Not a question. A statement! The Basement Boys also take on Riley Keough in The Lodge, a new psychological thriller from Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. It's here that Shawn proclaims Keough his new screen crush. Who's Jason's? Stick with us! And stick with us you will as Jason and Shawn update you on what they've been watching in order to make your social-distancing viewing easier. All you have to do is push play on the playe...

The Marshal Hilton interview and Extraction

The Basement Boys are back once more, having survived last night's social-isolation broadcast From The Basement. Now they've got the full podcast for your listening pleasure. And pleasure your ear holes they shall, as they've got the full 24-minute interview with veteran genre actor Marshal Hilton. Marshal starred in last fall's fright fest Echoes of Fear, and played a pivotal role in the movie. He talks about it, finding his character, and what it takes to be a working actor these days. It's an awesome conversation with an intelligent and interesting dude. Basement Dwellers will dig it! Jason and Shawn also put Netflix's big-action release Extraction on the chopping block. This flick is far removed from Chris Hemsworth's MCU role as Thor -- be him fat or otherwise. Does the star hold up in this relentless and brutal film? Stick with us! And stick around as the Dynamic Duo discuss Trump, bleach, zombie apocalypses and what streaming choices have been...

Marshal Hilton's Extraction from Echoes of Fear

We in The Basement have not hid our love for the indie-horror movie Echoes of Fear. It's easily the best such flick to come down the pike in the last few years, and if you haven't seen it, it's time. You have no excuse. It's available everywhere. Which is why we're psyched to welcome actor Marshal Hilton to the show, when From The Basement takes to the Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops airwaves at 6:05 tonight. Marshal plays a pivotal role in Echoes of Fear, one he and Jay do their best not to spoil for listeners. He talks about his involvement in Brian and Laurence Avenet-Bradley's film, how he came up with his character, and more. It's an insightful chat with an intelligent and talented man. There's one movie Jason and Shawn put on the chopping block, and it's a doozy. The Basement Boys dig into Netflix's action epic Extraction starring Chris Hemsworth, who is a long way from Fat Thor in this one. Does Extraction deliver the goods? Stick with us...

Marshal Hilton talks Echoes of Fear in The Basement

Marshal Hilton has made a name for himself in the independent film world, playing a variety of emotionally complex and somewhat manipulative characters in genre offerings like The Rake, Stressed to Kill, Primal Rage and, most recently, Echoes of Fear. How much we enjoyed Echoes of Fear is no secret to Basement Dwellers, and now that the film is hitting the home market, we thought it'd be fun to bring Marshal on the show to talk his pivotal role in the horror/thriller. Marshal and I discuss Echoes of Fear, how he created his character, and his reaction to seeing the film. We explore his career, his many upcoming projects and -- given he's a talented photographer -- we dive into that a bit too. It's a great talk with a smart and talented man, and I think you'll dig it. But when do we get to dig it, you ask? How about next Friday, May 1, at 6:05 in the P.M. -- and only on Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops! Stick with us!

Ring in the new year with Echoes of Fear

It's no secret Echoes of Fear is a recent Basement favourite. We shared much love for the movie here and here , and enjoyed the hell out of our conversation with its lovely star, the talented Trista Robinson. The film has already come home on a variety of platforms, but we've learned Brian and Laurence Avenent-Bradley's spooky thriller hits Digital on New Year's Day via Artist Rights Distribution. Big congrats to the writer/directors, and Trista's co-stars Hannah Race, Paul Chirico and Marshal Hilton. If you haven't caught Echoes of Fear yet, you won't have any excuses come Jan. 1, 2020. This is easily one of the best, and scariest, indie-horror movies to come along in quite some time. In the meantime, check out the trailer: Source: Echoes of Fear

The Trista Robinson interview, She Will Return, and comic-book crossovers

The Basement Boys are back with a new interview that's perfect for this, the spookiest time of the year. What did you expect with Halloween two weeks away? Christmas movies? We're not Wal-Mart, you know! Jay sits down with Trista Robinson, the talented star of Echoes of Fear, which Jason and Shawn reviewed just last week . Trista is hands down one of the coolest people who's ever appeared on this show, and she and Jay talk in detail about her spooky thriller, the horror genre, and how to play scared in a movie. This is one of the best conversations in the show's nine-year history. Keeping the Halloween train rolling, Jason sets his sites on She Will Return : The Pale-Faced Lady 2. This is Jeff Payne's follow up to his celebrated horror short, which the boys tackled earlier this year . How does this creepy sequel stack up? Stick with us! And stick around for this morning's segment from the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Morning News with Howie Reimer, a new revie...

Echoes of Trista Robinson in The Basement

One of the pleasant surprises of the fall movie season has been the creepy supernatural flick Echoes of Fear, which Shawn and I reviewed just last week . If you have a chance, please seek it out as it makes the theatrical circuit. It's worth your time, and dollar. And one of the best parts of the movie is star Trista Robinson, who is well on her way to becoming the next big scream queen. Trista and I sat down today for a chat about Echoes of Fear, her role in it, and what it's like earning the scream-queen title. Trista knows her stuff, is super talented, and probably the nicest person we've ever talked to in our nine years in this business. We had a great conversation I think fans will enjoy. As always, you'll hear a portion of it when From The Basement storms the Radio NL 610 AM Morning News at 8:20 Friday morning. The full interview appears on our extended cut podcast later in the day. Stick with us!

Review: Echoes of Fear

It's shaping up to be a good season of horror movies, folks. First we tapped My Soul to Keep , and that owned. Then Along Came the Devil II , and we were not disappointed. The hits keep on coming with Echoes of Fear, a new supernatural horror film with a groovy twist starring the talented Trista Robinson, who I predict will be the next big Scream Queen if she keep up like this. That woman brings a fine mix of vulnerability and intensity to a role, and has some of the best facial expressions I've ever seen. I felt her fear! How's the movie though? Damn good! It takes a bit of time to get going, but once it does -- BAM! I jumped out of my seat a few times in some truly short's sh---ing moments. And, far as I can tell, all the scares were staged in camera. There was no CGI on display here. Oh, what's it about? Right! Kinda important: Robinson plays a young woman who must confront the mysteries surrounding her grandfather's death when she inherits his house....

Echoes of Fear and Sesame Street's on crack

Drugs, drugs, drugs... which are good? Which are bad? That's right, the Basement Boys are talking narcotics this week. Narcotics on Sesame Street, as word hit the Interwebs the long-running children's TV show will be addressing the controversial subject of opioid addiction. Being the fine, upstanding citizens they are, Jason and Shawn -- and their live-stream viewers -- debate which Muppet is the dealer, and even put some money down on the subject. Socially responsible? Not really... But this episode isn't all crack and cracking jokes; Jason and Shawn get down to the business of reviewing movies, and they've got a creepy one on the chopping block called Echoes of Fear, which begins a theatrical run Oct. 16. Is this flick, which stars the beautiful and talented Trista Robinson, a worthy seasonal watch? Stick with us! And stick around for a new review by Mike S, and this morning's segment from the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Morning News -- including a shout out ...

Festival fave Echoes of Fear gets theatrical run

The award-winning horror romp Echoes of Fear, which nabbed Best Supernatural Horror Feature at Shriekfest, is about to embark on a 14-theatre run across the United States. That's gotta be pretty cool beans for writer/directors Brian and Laurence Avent-Bradley. Their flick looks solid too, with lots of creeping shadows, ghostly spectres, and things that go bump in the night. And some good looking women too. Give it a view: After inheriting her grandfather's home, Alysa (Trista Robinson) moves in to make the necessary repairs in order to sell it. As she begins packing her grandfather's belongings, something inside the house starts spooking her. Even her pet mouse senses a presence. And now, within the secret rooms and hidden crawlspaces beneath the estate, Alysa must confront the mystery of her grandfather's past, and the evil that hides inside his house. Sounds like everything you need to craft a good ghost story! And our U.S. brothers and sisters can check out...
