Jexi messages Gemini Man for The Addams Family

A trio of decidedly different films hit theatres today; an animated update of a TV classic, a smartphone-themed comedy, and an action flick starring Will Smith. Which one is right for you? That's the question From The Basement hopes to answer when they hit the Radio NL 610 AM Morning News at 8:20 this morning. So yeah, there's an animated version of The Addams Family coming out this weekend. It features the voices of Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz and Oscar Isaac. Could be a good Halloween watch for the kids. In the mood for action? How about Will Smith Vs. Will Smith? Then check out Gemini Man from Academy Award winning director Ang Lee. Yup, an action film from an acclaimed director. Kudos to him! And finally, there's Jexi, which is about a smartphone that becomes obsessed with its user. It's a comedy, by the way. Add the latest entertainment news and a rundown of what's worth watching at home and you've got the latest segment... From The Base...

Jason versus The Equalizer

The Equalizer is one of my favourite TV shows of the 80s. It aired at the very grown-up time slot of 10 p.m. -- far too late for me to stay up and watch. Thankfully we had a VCR and I recorded the show and watched it first thing after school the next day. The TV version was gritty and violent but had the corny trappings of episodic mainstream television. A big part of its success was the casting of veteran British actor Edward Woodward. So how does the big screen version starring Denzel Washington stack up to the original? Stick with me.

You have 16 seconds to watch this new Equalizer trailer

The only movie I'm jonesed enough to see in theatres for the remainder of the year is The Equalizer . I was a huge fan of 80s TV series , am a huge Denzel Washington fan, I dig Antoine Fuqua as a director and every word I've heard about the flick so far has been positive. Can't say that about most movies can you. Not a question. A fact.

New pics from Denzel Washington's The Equalizer

While some might scoff at Denzel Washington taking on the mantel of The Equalizer , first portrayed by the great -- and very British --  Edward Woodward in the 1980s TV series , I'm all for it. Why? It's Denzel Washington, dammit. The man does no wrong. The flick, directed by Denzel's Training Day partner Antione Fuqua, doesn't hit until Sept. 26, but we've scored some new images from the movie thanks to the fine folks at USA Today .

Supernatural revenge flick Savaged gets kick-ass trailer

That's rape and revenge flick actually . I'm not a big fan of the genre, which includes films like I Spit On Your Grave and The Last House on the Left . Sue me, but I'm not down with all things rapey. Director Michael Ojeda’s Savaged, on the other hand, looks decent. Or at least this brutal, kick-ass preview promises something different, rapey stuff aside. While traveling across country, Zoe, a lovely deaf mute woman, stumbles on a horrific crime -- a gang of rednecks slaughtering two Native American boys. Zoe's brave attempt to save one of the boys seals her fate. She is captured, raped and left for dead. When an Indian shaman finds her clinging to life in a shallow grave he attempts to save her -- but something goes horribly wrong. The spirit of an ancient Apache warrior takes host of Zoe's dead body. So now she walks among the living, hell-bent on getting revenge. One by one she slaughters the men who brutalized her, while the clock ticks. ...
