Review: Animal Among Us

Sometimes familiarity can breed contempt. You've heard the same story over and over, and are tired of it. Sure, maybe there are slight variations, but the storytellers offer nothing new. Jason bored! Then there's the story's that promise one thing, but delivers something different. A good move, right? But, if it's not done well, this can also leave one feeling contemptuous as we didn't get what we wanted. We're a bunch of spoiled babies, really; rarely satisfied with what we're handed on a silver platter. Fortunately, the filmmakers behind the new movie Animal Among Us were able to tease us with a familiar camp-set slasher story, but delivered something completely different in the end. And they pulled it off. Famous for a savage murder 15 years ago, and the central setting for Roland Baumgarner's contentious best seller The MerryMaker Murderer, MerryMaker Camp is officially set to re-open... but something big is still lurking in those woods! ...

Friday the 13th meets Dog Soldiers in Animal Among Us

I love easy-to-write headlines. I really do. I had one yesterday with One Night in October , and I bloody well have one again today for Animal Among Us. Animal Among Us does indeed take a nod toward Friday the 13th, with its summer-camp setting. The Dog Soldiers reference makes sense given the characters battle against some... thing... in the woods. Fifteen years ago, two teenage girls were killed at Merrymaker Campground. The case was filed as an animal attack, the camp condemned, and the beast never found. But something horrific still waits in those woods, ready to kill again... and the camp is about to reopen! Check out the trailer: This looks like fun! We love creature features in The Basement, and we're all about summer-camp slashers as well. Animal Among Us looks like a winner in our books! Animal Among Us stars Don Frye, Christian Oliver, and Larisa Oleynik. It hits DVD and VOD Nov. 19. Source: Uncork'd Entertainment
