For one, if you're in the mood for mindless entertainment -- which Shawn and I are pretty much all the time -- then this is the movie for you. Dead Heat is about as mindless as they come, and loaded with 80's style action, gore and one liners. What more do you need?
The plot is waaaayyyyy out there: a dead cop and his partner chase down the diabolical villain who killed him, while putting an end to a series of violent robberies perpetrated by zombies... all with a sexy blonde PR lady in tow.
Now, stars Treat Williams and Joe Piscopo don't have any real buddy-cop chemistry, and they kinda seem on autopilot when it comes to line delivery, but some of what they say is funny. And they certainly look like they're having fun. It's like director Mark Goldblatt yells "action" and they just roll with whatever is happening.
Lindsay Frost is a joy to watch here. She's the sexy blonde PR lady, and she brings life and charm to a character who doesn't have a ton to do. But she moves the plot along nonetheless. And it's fun seeing genre vets like Darren McGavin and the great Vincent Price together in the same movie.
The rest of Dead Heat is pure cheese. Lots of gunfights and zombies with guns. And there's a scene in a Chinese restaurant that has to be seen to be believed. Yup, this is one crazy flick, and it's a Good.
