I'm back for another galactic adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! If you haven't already figured it out, this week's MCU movie is, "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2"!
While being chased by an alien race they've naturally upset, the Guardians of the Galaxy are saved by a mysterious figure.
Who is their savior, and what does he want with Peter Quill?
And what role will the space pirate Yondu have to ultimately play in Quill's life?
My my last MCU review, I mentioned that "Guardians of the Galaxy" was one of my favourite MCU movies. Right after that would have come this movie.
It has the same strong team dynamic within the main story line, and doubles down by bringing into the mix an equally strong "B" plot. The two main plots move along with a balance and cohesion that isn't found a lot in movies these days. Not only that, but the smaller threads concerning Nebula and Gamora, and Rocket Raccoon's attitude are weaved in smoothly and only serve to enhance the overall story. I found myself fully engaged and interested in what was happening.
The characters are given a decent amount of development in this instalment. Quill, Gamora, Nebula, Yondu, Rocket Raccoon all get developed in wonderful, interesting, and satisfying ways- all without one characters overshadowing the others. I really quite enjoyed watching these characters grow over the course of the movie. Makes me hope for a third movie.
Just like the first one, "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2" has the same wonderful balance of vibrant colours and grounded style. The camera work moves the action along smoothly, and the effects are amazing- without distracting you from the heart of the story.
If you haven't seen this MCU installment- do so. And watch it again. I did. A very cosmic "Good".
