Several months back a filmmaker named DJ Remark submitted a short film to us that wasn't up our alley. It was a break-up movie. Yes, a break-up movie in The Basement? Insanity!
We did end up reviewing it on our podcast. Obviously, we gave the flick the best review we could given our bias. And we gave DJ some advice; always research the site you're sending a film too. If it's a horror/genre site like ours, a break-up flick probably isn't going to be well received.
To his credit, DJ recently sent another short our way, one tailored to Shawn and I's sensibilities. Good Works is definitely a horror/genre film. And it's a decent one too, showing the man has an understanding of the genre.
We get some scares, we get some bloody ghosts, and we get a weird conversation between our heroine and a door-to-door religious solicitor about finding one's purpose in life. The conversation is weird, that is, until we uncover what is actually going on here.
I figured out the twist just before the big reveal happened, but that's fine. I enjoyed my watch, and the idea DJ is playing with. Flesh it out some, and he'd have a pretty nifty feature on his hands.
Thanks for not letting our words discourage you, DJ. This one's a Good! Hopefully folks can track it down and see it for themselves. And feel free to send us whatever else you've got in your filmmaker's bag of tricks!
