Not to be confused with Netflix's Triple Frontier, the new martial-arts flick Triple Threat is sold as the year's biggest, most killingest action movie. And it sports a fine cast of action stars including Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Tiger Chen, Michael Jai White and Scott Adkins.
That's quite the cast, and quite the claim. The years' killingest action movie? Takes balls to make a statement like that.
Fortunately, Triple Threat has the balls to back that statement up, and more than follows through on its promise. Does it have great acting? No. Does the script have a boat load of plot holes? Yes. Should any true action fan give a shit? Fuck no!
This is a pure action movie, one where the gun fights and fight scenes are the main focus. In fact, that's all you're allowed to show up for. Give Triple Threat any more thought than that is doing the film, and yourself, a disservice. And if you're going to give all that other stuff the time of day, get off this page!
Triple Threat is the best action movie I've seen in years, outside of the John Wick films of course. It starts with a 10-minute action scene, continues with a fight scene a few moments later, and just kind of rockets along from there. There's never a dull moment, the fight choreography is stellar, and each of the leads gets his moment to shine.
Think the classic martial arts films of Jet Li, Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan, and you pretty much get the point. Right down to the part at the end where all the heroes square off against their rivals and throw down. Yes, it's that's kind of action movie, and it's awesome!
Because I'm that guy, it must also be acknowledged that Celina Jade is a true beauty, and has screen presence to spare. That is all.
Triple Threat is a great way to kill a Friday night (pun intended) and has quickly worked its way onto my regular action rotation. It's a Good, and demands to be seen!
