One of my all-time favourite slow-burn psychological horror films is Brad Anderson's Session 9. It's a simple tale of an asbestos clean-up crew encountering... something within an abandoned mental asylum, and it's creepy as fuck!
Anderson has dipped his toe in horror since with The Machinist, Vanishing on 7th Street, and a variety of TV shows, but he's about to make a big leap back into the genre with Existence.
Deadline reports Anderson has signed on to direct the picture, which was penned by The Shallows Anthony Jaswinski. The film is about survivors of a shipwrecked research vessel contending not only with nature and the elements, but a sect of people who have existed in a primal state for more than 60,000 years. Sounds terrifying to me!
No word yet on when this bad boy will hit theatres, but as fans of Session 9, we in The Basement will track this one for you as it goes through production.
