I'm not going to waste a lot of time with my thoughts on Creed, because that would be pointless. Was I skeptical about another entry in the Rocky series, let alone a spinoff featuring the son of Apollo Creed? Yes. Did I think the world needed this movie? No.
Was I proven wrong? Stick with me!
Creed is an amazing piece of work. A fight movie that stands with the greatest fight movies of all time, A powerful, emotional character piece that bridges the old and the new with spectacular results. And it's a juggernaut of entertainment to boot.
First off, kudos to director/co-writer Ryan Coogler for making this movie work. Not only is it a brilliant continuation of the Rocky Balboa saga, but a fine "reboot" of the series as well, featuring a strong, star-making turn for Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed. This kid has chops. I can't wait to see him in the role again.
As for Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone? Wow! Rocky is screen legend, as is the man who plays him. To see Stallone portray Rocky one more time is revelation. He deserve the Oscar nod he just got, and I hope he wins it. I've always know Stallone was more than a one-note actor, but he proved it to the world with his performance here. Nothing short of powerful.
The fights? Brilliant. As a fledgling fighter myself, I was in awe of the action and how it's portrayed. There's only a couple of scraps in Creed, but they work so damn good. The payoff is huge.
This movie has everything -- pathos, drama, action, emotion, levity. And it's crowd pleaser. One of 2015's best? Absolutely. My hat is off to Creed. Let's do it again soon.

Good to hear MBJ can crawl out from under the steamy shit pile that was Fantastic Four. Interesting though is that his IMDB does not show any projects in the works.
