Easily the best movie-related news I've heard all month, confirmation came today that James Wan will return to the director's chair for the sequel to his smash hit The Conjuring.
You may all return to your daily business. Thank you for your co-operation. Good night.
For those of you who are still here, The Conjuring 2 was originally scheduled to open Oct. 23, 2015, but Warner Bros. decided yesterday to delay the flick's release until some time in 2016. The reason, obviously, is Wan is busy finishing post production on The Fast and The Furious 7, which hits screens in April, leaving little time to prep and shoot the horror sequel.
Now the man has all the time he needs, and I'm grateful. As far as this Basementite is concerned, Wan is the best horror director in the business. He understands practical effects and old-fashioned scares are greater than special effects and gore. Sure, Wan invented torture porn with Saw, but, with Insidious and The Conjuring, he's shown more of an interest in frightening people than grossing them out.
This is a good thing.
My ass was guaranteed in a seat for The Conjuring 2. Now that Wan's back on board, it'll be there on opening night.
