Spotlight on Hillbilly Horror Show Ep. 3

I'm an unashamed fan of Blu de Goyler's comedic horror anthology Hillbilly Horror Show. The Internet series debuted earlier this year and has cranked out three episodes thus far, the third of which recently landed online.

Sadly, it took me a few weeks to catch up with the latest adventures of Bo (Bo Keister), Cephus (Scott Geiter) and kissing cousin Lulu (Rachel Faulkner) as they endure another round of independent horror shorts.

There are four fright flicks on the chopping block this time, with only one leaving me cold. But what can I say? Art films like Modern Grumble don't do anything for me. I'd try and tell you what it's about, but I'm not sure. Nor do I care.

Fortunately the other three deliver the goods. Get Off My Porch is a fun tribute to the horror movies of the 80s. You know, back when scary was also funny? Plus there's a great score by Friday the 13th composer and past Basement guest Harry Manfredini.

Divination is a creepy ghost story--ish that ends with a gory bang. Spoiler alert! And Follow is further proof The Blair Witch Project formula still works, at least for those of us who dug that movie.

My only complaint is I'd like more of Bo, Cephus and Lulu. Yeah, they're supposed to sit around and watch these movies, but I'd groove on a whole episode about them doing whatever Blu can come up with. Just a thought.
