Director James Wan set out to prove he could make a scary PG-13 horror, but it looks like he was a little too successful. This is A-OK by me.
Producer Walter Hamada has revealed The Conjuring has been given an R rating by the MPAA. The reason? It's too scary! In his words:
“When we sent it [to MPAA], they gave us the R-rating. When we asked them why, they basically said, ‘It’s just so scary. [There are] no specific scenes or tone you could take out to get it PG-13.’”
Nice!
And what does Wan have to say about all this? Read on:
“[Is] a testament to the studio for not fucking with the film. It works and they are sticking to it and I’m very thankful for that.“
So there you go. We're gonna get a scary horror movie based on the true case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren. To see just how scary this movie is going to be, watch the preview again.
The Conjuring opens July 19.
