Basement contributor Matt Bellamy has taken it upon himself to watch and
review at least one horror movie a day for
the month of October . . . because he's awesome that way! Tonight, Bellamy satiates his lust for beasts, boobs and blood! And Christopher Lloyd too.
In the last decade or so, there really hasn't
been a movie with as much blood on screen, in fact, this set a Guinness
record for most practical blood ever used in a movie--now that is an
honour! Directed by Alexandre Aja (High
Tension, The Hills Have Eyes), I initially thought this would be a dark
and serious movie like the other films in his resume however that could
not be further from the truth, what you get here is something so off the
wall that you can't help but laugh even as someone is getting their
face chewed off. The bare-bones plot goes like this: prehistoric
man-eating piranha are unleashed on a Nevada lake where it just so
happens that thousands of tourists and horny teenagers are hanging out
for spring break--a recipe for awesomeness! Elizabeth Shue (still
looking hot) is the local sheriff trying to keep everything in order,
and as the crap hits the fan she realizes she is obviously in over her
head with people being killed all over the place, luckily, she has her
trusty deputy (Ving Rhames) with her to kick some piranha ass! The best
part about this movie is the massacre climax it builds up to where
everything goes sideways and we see some serious blood, gore, and yes,
boobies. Hats off to the KNB makeup team who really knocked this one out
of the park, Greg Nicotero was clearly having fun here, applying some
truly gruesome prosthetics and having a field day coming up with wicked
and creative kills! Watch with friends, consume some silly juice, and
laugh your butt off!
