Hey Basementites. (I love that there is "tit" in that word, unlike in Sharknado) I got sucked in the swirling vortex of sharks, after hearing from many people that it wasn't awful. You know us, in The Basement, willing to try almost anything. We are semi-fans of Asylum's projects, knowing we aren't going to get Academy Award winning eye candy. And frankly, even "those" are over rated and stupid. Sometimes. Anthony Michael Bosa (Basement regular) usually heads up the Asylum patrol, as he is willing to go elbow deep into their pool. Heck, even I have said, "One day, these folks at Asylum, are gonna hit a winner. Today, I discovered that, Asylum can go fuck goats. To have been graced by some named "has beens", like: Ian Ziering , T ara Reid and John Heard ,  to name a few, Asylum should feel honored. Yet they put these guys (and lady) on screen with crayon effects, terrible screen continuity and I could go on and on...Lazy film mak...

Allow me to quickly introduce myself: My name is Kara, and I live over at www.karaschatter.com . I have no experience in the movie industry, other than watching and appreciating them. I thought I would offer up my movie reviewing skills, or lack thereof, to The Basement to give readers a female perspective on movies, new, old, good, and bad.  The Discovery Channel’s famous “Shark Week” had decided to wrap things up Saturday night with a double-header showing of Jaws (of course) and … wait, what? Sharknado! This film has swept the social media scene in a frenzy (pun regrettably intended) and so I couldn’t help but hit “Record” on the ol’ PVR to see what the fuss is all about. Right off the bat, it’s simply ridiculous. A rich, Asian tycoon is aboard a lonely shark-fishing boat, wheelin’ and dealin’ while eating delicious shark fin soup. Then, a storm hits, as does the irony. Asian guy gets devoured by a shark. And so it begins. The storm makes its way to the California ...

That's right folks, if you're a total loser like me and you didn't catch the heavily buzzed about SyFy Channel flick Sharknado, you've got another opportunity. Regal Entertainment Group brings the crazy ass movie about sharks and tornadoes to 500 movie theatres for midnight screenings on Aug. 2. Course we don't have any Regal theatres near Basement headquarters so fuck my life. When the film was broadcast earlier this month, #sharknado registered about 5,000 tweets per minute and accumulated more than 600,000 social media mentions. The Selling Jason: Finally, a horror comedy that's actually funny. Kudos to screenwriter/star Gabriel Diani for that. He wrote some funny shit here AND he performed the majority of it to a T. Kudos also to co-stars Jonathan Klein, Janet Varney, Etta Devine and company too. It's the acting and interactions that make this movie. Did I mention Barry (Some Guy Who Kills People) Bostwick is in this? Well he is. And his small part owns! Not all the humour comes off. The big set pieces – like the sales montage shown in the trailer – aren't that funny. It's the dialogue – “Does that feel like dream boob to you?” – that make the movie This is a lighthearted flick that hits more than it misses. And it's one more people need to see. Obscurity, thy name is The Basement. But that's what The Basement is all about -- finding and reviewing those off-the-grid B-movies and letting you know which ones to watch and what to avoid. Tonight's double bill features a couple of flicks most people haven't heard of or seen. Well, one for sure. The other, maybe. As if selling a house isn't hard enough, try selling one that's haunted. That's the premise behind the horror-comedy The Selling, which is slowly unspooling on VOD and the festival circuit. Haunted house movies are ripe for spoofing. We've been pumping The Month from Hell for all its worth in anticipation of our return to the air this October. And one of the first film's we're reviewing is The Fields care of Six Degrees of Hell scribe Harrison Smith. The Fields tells the story of a young boy and his family who are terrorized by an unseen presence in a nearby corn field. Smith maintains this a true story, which ups the creep factor all the way. Cloris Leachman and veteran hottie Tara Reid star in the film, which has been making its theatrical and VOD rounds for some time. It lands on DVD and Blu-Ray Aug. 27.
