Review: Ouijageist

It took me several days to formulate my thoughts on Ouijageist. Watching it was an interesting experience, as I really enjoyed parts of it, but had a hard time with others. Did I like the movie? Did I dislike it? I wasn't sure. The film is about a single mother and her baby girl who move into a new flat (this takes place in England) and discover a Ouija Board buried in the garden. Obviously bad things start to happen. I appreciated how it comes out the gate, guns blazing, with a series of tragic "accidents" that cost some of the characters their lives, and seriously injures others. All within the first half hour. Director John R. Walker and writers Darrell Buxton and Steve Hardy aren't messing around. And the film does manage to conjure some effective suspense and kills. This is a low, low budget movie (Walker told me in an online chat that the film was made for maybe $10, and they'd lost some funding partners), but Walker tries his best to create a cohere

The Jennifer N. Linch interview, Top 5 apocalyptic movies, and Ouijageist

Hot off the success of last night's epic broadcast From The Basement comes the podcast version of our show, one that features even more of our interview with the beautiful and talented Jennifer N. Linch! For the uninitiated, Jennifer is a director/producer/actor/model/martial artist who just completed her first feature film; the martial arts/supernatural/romantic comedy Kung Fu Ghost. And she joins us to provide an update on the film, share how production went, and give a hint at what's next for this one-woman filmmaking army! But that's not all, as Jason and Shawn share their list of Top 5 apocalyptic movies. It is the end of the world as we know it, so the Basement Boys decided to sound off on their favourite end-of-the-world flicks. What movies made the cut and what didn't? Stick with us! And don't you dare touch that dial, as the Dynamic Duo put the supernatural horror flick Ouijageist on the chopping block. Hey, if movies called Ouija and Poltergeist ma

Jennifer N. Linch updates Ouijageist for the apocalypse

One of the coolest interviews From The Basement had last year was with director/producer/actor/model and martial artist Jennifer N. Linch. She was in pre-production on her first feature, Kung Fu Ghost, and was excited to tell Basement Dwellers all about it. Now Kung Fu Ghost is -- as they say in the film world -- in the can, and Jennifer is back to update listeners about her movie when From The Basement hits the Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops airwaves at 6:05 tonight! Jennifer provides the 411 on how filming her martial arts/romantic comedy went, the toll it took on her to not only direct, but act in the movie, and do her own stunts and fighting. Plus she's already got another film in development. Suffice to say, this is one busy lady! That's not all Jason and Shawn have in store for you this eve; given it's the end of the world and all, the Basement Boys have their Top 5 apocalypse-themed movies to watch during these difficult times. What movies made the list, and what d

U.K. horror flick Ouijageist gets North American release

If movies about Ouija boards and poltergeists made a lot of money, wouldn't it make sense to combine the two ideas into one film? On the surface, that's what it director John R. Walker did with Ouijageist. I say on the surface, because the idea of unleashing evil spirts while playing with a Ouija board is nothing new. We saw it in Witchboard, Ouija and countless other movies. So really, in the end, what's one more? This U.K. import, which hits the home market today, offers everything we'd expect from such a movie. And hey, we're all stuck inside, so why not give it a watch. Not a question. A Statement. Check out the trailer: Darrell Buxton and Steve Hardy wrote this one, which debuted across the pond last month. What do you think? Gonna give Ouijageist a watch? Source: Wild Eye Releasing
