As you can probably tell by the picture heading this article, it's Wednesday- which means that it's time again to romp through the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Also, as you can probably tell, this week's trip involves going to the airport to watch "Captain America: Civil War".
After the destruction of Sokovia, the world governments are thinking of requiring superheros to register and put themselves under the control of their respective countries.
But that becomes irrelevant because Captain America needs to rescue his brainwashed former sidekick, Bucky Barnes...
If the above synopsis sounds a little harsh, that's because it's accurate. The story starts out with much the same premise as the Marvel comic event of the same name- the need for superheroes to come under government control and regulation. But it quickly gets dropped in favor of the heroes being divided over the fugitive status of Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier. To put it bluntly, I was disappointed. Marvel had a chance to open discussion among movie fans about the pros and cons of superhero registration- similar to how the comic did.
I had a hard time appreciating the characters in this instalment. Other than Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, and Bucky Barnes, there is very little development in the characters. They come off as padding. I did like Spider-Man's intro into the MCU though. Beyond that, this movie was kinda blah character-wise.
This movie felt... rushed to me. I can't entirely explain it, but it felt like it was released before it should've been. Of the MCU movies so far, this is one of the weakest, and hollowest ones. While it's worth watching for completeness sake, it's absolutely not one I'd watch again. I'm sticking it in "The Bad".
