I kick up the Dimensional Velocity Determination (DVD) machine to travel into the MCU again. This week, I check out 2015's "Ant-Man"...
Scott Lang is an ex-convict trying to go straight so he can earn the right to help raise his daughter.
Too bad, a mysterious tip about a heist causes him to cross paths with a corrupt arms dealer.
Because now Scott has to risk everything he holds dear in order to stop shrink technology from falling into the wrong hands...
"Ant-Man" was an enjoyable ride filled with heart, humour, action, and adventure. It is also one of the more intimate films in the MCU. The action all revolves around Scott, and his attempts to do the right thing, wanting to be a good parent to his daughter, and ultimately, his willingness to risk everything to protect her. The action, comedy, and serious moments all run smoothly and seamlessly together in a nice, natural rhythm that made it easy to follow and invest in emotionally.
The characters really assisted this film with the mission of entertaining its audience. They are all unique, complex, and interesting characters from a nice range of backgrounds and personalities. I wanted to spend time with these misfits, ne'er-do-wells, and aristocratic types. Their strengths, and their flaws melded nicely together as the events unfolded- keeping me watching and focused.
All the performers brought such a life and energy to their characters. None of them stuck out like sore thumbs. They all worked smoothly together to tell the story. I would absolutely watch another movie with this cast in it. Just a sincere pleasure to watch them work.
"Ant-Man" is a really enjoyable, and fun part of the MCU. There's a "large" threat, but the focus is on the individuals involved- giving it a nicely different tone from the other films. A solid "Good".
