I'm not much of a Star Trek fan outside of the feature films. I've tried many times to watch the various TV series, but they all seemed the same to me, no matter how differently they were dressed. And yes, that includes Star Trek: Discovery, which returns to CBS All Access later this week.
For the record, I am excited about the new Picard series, because Patrick Stewart is the tits!
But Trekkers everywhere must be stoked that Michelle Yeoh, who currently resides on Discovery, is getting her own spinoff show, one that deals with a side of the Federation that hasn't been touched on a lot.
The as-yet-untitled show focuses on Yeoh's Phillipa Georgiou, but not her noble Starfleet captain persona. Nope. This Trek is about the Mirror universe character who appeared in the Discovery timeline during the second half of season one.
Confused? Yeah, me too.
Anyway, the series also dives into the character's time with Section 31, a shadowy Federation black-ops unit that does all the dirty work. Cool, I say!
This promises to be something different, and interesting, for us non-Trek people who are easily bored by boldly going places and playing nice with everyone all the time. No word yet on when the series will premiere, but when we know, you'll know.
Star Trek: Discovery returns on Thursday.
