Bad news for our resident Trekkers Shawn and Mike S as word hit the Interwebs today that the next instalment in Star Trek's big-screen franchise might not happen after all.
Word came via the folks at Collider that contract negotiations for Chris Pine, who plays James T. Kirk, and Chris Hemsworth, who was to return in the untitled fourth film as Kirk's back-from-the-dead dad, have stalled.
This comes after a director was signed to the film. However, J.S. Clarkson has reportedly left the project to helm HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series. Why? One can only speculate, but reports came out last August that contract negotiations for Chrises Pine and Hemsworth had gone south, despite Pine's desire to return to the captain's chair.
With no Kirk, is there a point in another film? Doesn't sound like it.
Hopefully all this can get sorted out, and we can see more Star Trek on the silver screen. I dig me the new incarnation of Star Trek, and thought Star Trek Beyond was awesome. Only time will tell, I suppose.

I felt Star Trek beyond was a bit OTT, but ok. I preferred the 1st 2, especially the 1st one. I've watched that several times. As far as Hemsworth not being in the 4th, I could care less, but Chris Pine not in a 4th, I wouldn't even bother watching it in a theater, maybe at home on Netflix or something. Total shame if Chris wasn't in it, he's a very good James T Kirk.
ReplyDeleteYes, no one else should play Kirk at all. I didn't think anyone could replace Shatner, but Pine does a great job.
