I dug -- up to a point -- Guillermo del Toro's two Hellboy movies. They were fun, and offered a spirited turn by Ron Perlman as the hero of the title.
But I cried me no tears when a reboot was announced, as I've nothing invested in the character beyond those movies. My interest peaked when Neil Marshall, who directed my favourite werewolf movie of all time, Dog Soldiers, signed on to direct.
The deal closer was casting Stranger Things star David Harbour as Hellboy. He's a fine actor, but probably the last man on Earth I thought would get the part. Still, I figured he could pull it off.
Now that I've seen the trailer, I'm 100 per cent sold. But I will let said trailer speak for itself.
This looks like fun! Lots of action, some humour, and we've been promised an R rating to guarantee Mike Mignola's more horrific elements of the comic remain intact. I'm pretty sure my ass will be in a theatre seat when Hellboy hits on April 12th!
