I don't know where to begin with Creed II. It's a moviegoing experience that, surprisingly, proved as much an emotional ride for me as The Force Awakens was three years ago.
Yup, a movie about boxing hit me in the feels -- both nostalgia wise and on an emotional level -- as much as an entry in my all time favourite film series.
But Creed II isn't just a boxing movie. Nor is just a sequel to Creed and, by way of bringing back Drago, to Rocky IV as well.
This is a movie about relationships, legacies, friendship, parenthood, loyalty, respect, love, regret and pretty much every part of the human condition in-between. I caught myself tearing up a couple of times. Not afraid to say it.
And yes, it's also about boxing, and the boxing is brutal and exciting.
Not a moment in this movie is wasted. All of it rings true. We're invested at every turn. It helps that everyone is so good in it, and each get their moment to shine, including Dolph Lundgren. He says so much with a glance, and it's great to see him in a dramatic turn.
If Stallone doesn't win Best Supporting Actor at the next Oscar's, that award ceremony is a sham. We know it is already, but you know . . .
This is a powerful and exciting movie, one to enjoy over and over. I'm glad I saw it in the theatre, and it's one of the best Goods I've come across in a long time. See it!
