The Watch features some of the biggest names in comedy working a script by screenwriting duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg , a couple of the funniest writers in Hollywood. Sounds like a slam dunk doesn't it? Then why was the flick ignored during last summer's box office bonanza? Four men who form a neighborhood watch group as a way to get out of their day-to-day family routines find themselves defending the Earth from an alien invasion. Two things seemed to work against The Watch. For one, the 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin by a neighbourhood watch member in Florida. Then there's the crude humour, which mainstream audiences were turned off by. Too bad, as The Watch is pretty fucking funny. Sure, it's vulgar and offensive, but these sequences are the ones I laughed the hardest at. If that makes me an asshole, fine. Sue me. Funny is funny. Truth is, there's nothing worse here than in most Judd Apatow movies, only this film lacks the "sweetness"...
