Home invaders get more than they bargained for in You're Next

Home invasion isn't a much touched up topic in the horror genre outside of the 2008 fright film The Strangers. But the upcoming horror entry You're Next looks like it'll giving the formula a run for its money, scary masks and all. The film, which is directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon (Dead Birds) Barrett, will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival later this year. It also brings 80s scream queen Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, From Beyond) back to the big screen. The plot does come with a twist, which is nice. The Strangers played the concept of creepy home invaders to the hilt and that would be tough to repeat, even in a sequel. But check out the synopsis for You're Next: A family comes under a terrifying and sadistic attack during a reunion getaway. Is Santa the next Freddy or Jason? Looks that way.

It looks like someone finally cracked the combo of  Santa Claus and horror (sorry, Silent Night, Deadly Night). Building a crazy amount of buzz at the Toronto Film Festival is Jalmari Helander's horror tale from Finland, Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale . From what I can gather, Rare Exports tells the taleof a not-so-magically Christmas discovery: buried 486 metres deep under the Korvatunturi mountains is the real Santa Claus. A feral, bad ass one. Maybe more?  No word yet on when the film gets a release, but we in The Basement are intrigued. Check out the trailer below for a look at this slick, potentially amusing production.
