Jason reviews This Means War

Harmless fluff about two spies who chase the affection of the same woman. Think Mad's Spy Vs. Spy only less mean spirited. You know what? It's not bad at all; as for as one-off time wasters go. And it's something the wife can enjoy as well. Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon are all likable, funny actors, and they do a good job here. In fact, with another cast, this could have been really, really awful. Kudos to director McG for knowing how to shoot an action scene. Too bad there weren't more of them. This is like True Lies lite, and it's OK on that level. Not our usual poison in The Basement, but a decent lark all the same. A Bad for this one. FYI: the paintball scene is just awesome!

Spy Vs Spy hearts Witherspoon

Ok. Ok. Ok. There's no logical reason for me to post the preview for This Means War. It's a mainstream Hollywood movie directed by Mc (spits) G and starring Reese Witherspoon in what appears to be a rom com. I say appears because the trailer has a fair bit of PG-rated violence. But, in addition Witherspoon being gorgeous, This Means Wars stars two of my favourite actors -- Chris Pine of Star Trek fame and Tom Hardy from Bronson and Inception. And the concept of two spies who happen to be best friends fighting over the same hot blond is pretty funny. Did I mention my wife and I watched the movie being filmed in Vancouver last year? Well we did. So there's that too. Anywho, check out the trailer and I promise never to promote a Reese Witherspoon movie again.

Inception actor to tackle role in the new Batman . . .

. . .  but there is no word yet on who Tom Hardy is going to play. All that's confirmed is co-writer and director Christopher Nolan has cast him in a lead role in the film. While there’s zero confirmation on his part, we in The Basement encourage you to go bug  nuts with your guesses – would he make a good Riddler? Is he taking on one of the other iconic characters from Bats’ rogues’ gallery? Bruce Wayne's mail man? Hey, it could happen. Hardy has been shooting the latest version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy for Thomas Alfredson and will appear in McG’s action comedy This Means War alongside Reese Witherspoon (whom yours truly caught a glimpse of in Vancouver last week. She's short and 50 per cent leg) and Chris Pine. His version of Mad Max has been temporarily waylaid due to bad weather Down Under. The next Bat film is due out in 2012, just in time for the apocalypse.
