Scope out these bad ass Expendables 3 character posters

As those Saturday morning cartoon toy commercials used to say, there's 16 in all. But we in The Basement proudly bring you four character posters for The Expendables 3 featuring some of the biggest stars in what is arguably a movie chock full of genre legends. I mean, come on, we've got:

And the cast of The Expendables 3 is . . .

Just a quick hit to announce the full cast list of The Expendables 3, according to sources at Bleeding Cool that is. Note no Chan, Cage or Fat Seagal. Or Rourke for that matter. No Rourke = sad Jay.     Sylvester Stallone     Jason Statham     Harrison Ford     Mel Gibson     Dolph Lundgren     Wesley Snipes     Jet Li     Randy Couture     Antonio Banderas     Ronda Rousey     Terry Crews     Arnold Schwarzenegger     Victor Ortiz     Kellan Lutz Pretty tight otherwise. Well, maybe not Kellan Lutz. But still pretty tight. Source: Bleeding Cool

Steven Seagal will be an Expendable?

That's what some unnamed Bulgarian sources are saying. The Fat One himself is good to G-O for The Expendables 3. So says ExBlog , the "Ultimate Blog of The Expendables Franchise." And these same sources told ExBlog Mel Gibson is down for a role as the villain. Regular readers and listeners know we have a love/hate relationship with Steven Seagal in The Basement -- we love to make fun of the fact that we hate he got fat. If he has a role in the next installment of the action franchise, that's fine with us. If this rumour is true, Seagal and Gibson join fellow newcomers Jackie Chan, Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes and Milla Jovovich . Mickey Rourke returns after sitting out the second film. Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and the rest of The Expendables are back as well. Red Hill director Patrick Hughes helms the flick, which hits theatres Aug. 15, 2014. Source: Ain't It Cool News

@TheSlyStallone tweets on The Expendables 3

Sylvester Stallone is the man. Sure, Bullet to the Head didn't do any business, but his Rocky Balboa , Rambo and first two Expendables movies have been huge international hits. Of all the aging action guys, Bruce Willis aside, who can say that? Stallone is currently writing The Expendables 3 and took to his Twitter account today to share some details. Here's what he had to say: Writing EX3 at the moment... there are going to be mountains of surprises..Took the girls riding .. They are loving horses like their folks EX3 needs NEW blood and more humor.... The films were always meant to be more on the humorous side with moments of drama No S. Seagal, sorry ,but maybe we get lucky with J. Chan! And some young bloods!!! Interesting. Looks like those Jackie Chan rumours from a couple of months back were just that -- rumours. And no Steven Seagal , eh? Guess he's too busy eating his latest bucket of chicken. As for bringing in young blood -- who? Dwayne Johns...

Jackie Chan on for The Expendables 3

At least that's what Cinema Online is reporting. And we're willing to take them on their good word. Actually, the article claims that Sylvester Stallone offered the legendary martial arts star a role in the second film, but Chan had a prior commitment. However, in the Drunken Master's own words . . . "But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes," said Chan. Chan also expressed an interest in seeing The Expendables 3 be more of a buddy-buddy movie, whatever that means. All I want is these legendary action guys to blow shit up. As long as that's going on, I'm cool. There you go. The Expendables 3 continues to rock and roll forward. And yes, Nicolas Cage is still on board. Shawn died a little inside with that bit of casting.
