SYFY celebrates Friday the 13th with a Friday the 13th marathon

Let's face it, tomorrow is Friday the 13th; and no self-respecting movie fan is going to make it through the day without watching at least one Friday the 13th movie. Well, the folks at SYFY are encouraging you to enjoy more than one as they broadcast a 24-hour Friday the 13th marathon! The marathon starts at midnight, and presents Paramount Pictures eight films in order as a way to celebrate the original flick's 40th anniversary. So you get Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th Part II, Friday the 13th Part III, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood and Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. At 6 p.m. SYFY transforms into Camp Crystal Lake's Public Access Channel, featuring quirky in-world commercials, camp counsellor "recruitment videos," PSAs, favourite movie moments and more. This sounds like a lot of fun, and a great way to celeb...

From The B-Kingdom: Ghost Shark

The problem with every movie about sharks is that you can be relatively sure that whenever the characters are on land, there is little to no possibility of danger.  And that's why Ghost Sharks are more dangerous, and more scary, than regular sharks.  Also, they can't be killed by conventional means. I originally thought that this movie was a mocumentary , and then I thought that it was just poorly and oddly narrated. As it turns out, I was watching it with the descriptive video function turned on for about half an hour, and by the time I figured this out, I was not willing to begin the movie over again. Incidentally, if ever you find yourself watching a movie that you feel you might not be getting the maximum about of enjoyment out of, and there isn't a Rifftrax track available for it, I highly recommend turning on the descriptive video. As it turns out, this can be quite amusing, and it is also a great way of remembering the names of characters whose significance...

Shawn Gets Sucked in the SHARKNADO

Hey Basementites. (I love that there is "tit" in that word, unlike in Sharknado) I got sucked in the swirling vortex of sharks, after hearing from many people that it wasn't awful. You know us, in The Basement, willing to try almost anything. We are semi-fans of Asylum's projects, knowing we aren't going to get Academy Award winning eye candy. And frankly, even "those" are over rated and stupid. Sometimes. Anthony Michael Bosa (Basement regular) usually heads up the Asylum patrol, as he is willing to go elbow deep into their pool. Heck, even I have said, "One day, these folks at Asylum, are gonna hit a winner. Today, I discovered that, Asylum can go fuck goats. To have been graced by some named "has beens", like: Ian Ziering , T ara Reid and John Heard ,  to name a few, Asylum should feel honored. Yet they put these guys (and lady) on screen with crayon effects, terrible screen continuity and I could go on and on...Lazy film mak...

80s horror anthology Monsters heads to DVD

I never got to check out any of the 72 episodes that made up the hit syndicated show Monsters during its original run from 1988 to 1991. Nor have I caught the reruns on Syfy or Chiller , or our Space network for that matter. But Basementites will soon have the chance as the complete series is scheduled for release on DVD via Entertainment One on Feb. 25 with a retail price of about $100. No special features have been announced for the nine-disc set. Monsters was produced by the same company behind the popular Tales from the Darkside TV series , and featured such notable guests as John Saxon , Lili Taylor , Meat Loaf, and Adrienne Barbeau . The DVD box art is by way of Fangoria. Can't say it does much for me. Lacey Chabert rolls in the hay with SyFy's Scarecrow

I know the headline is cheesy, but so are most of SyFy 's original movies. So call us even. That said, I've enjoyed most of what SyFy has come up with over the years. And who doesn't like a decent killer scarecrow movie? They are so few and far between. Throw in Black Christmas/Lost in Space hottie Lacey Chabert and I'm down. For generations, it was an urban legend that lived in the nightmares of children. Now, the season to rejuvenate the tale will revive a town’s darkest fears. With the Scarecrow Festival on the horizon, school teacher Aaron Harris is doling out punishment for six students serving detention, including the moody Tyler , Goth girl Nikki, wrestling team captain Daevon, and straight-A student Jun. Their task: help Aaron ’s girlfriend Amanda fix her family farm before it’s sold. But the cornfields circling the farm come with a legend-and Tyler takes macabre delight in recounting the tale: It never sleeps, it never dies, it can’t be st...

SyFy sensation Sharknado goes theatrical

That's right folks, if you're a total loser like me and you didn't catch the heavily buzzed about SyFy Channel flick Sharknado, you've got another opportunity. Regal Entertainment Group brings the crazy ass movie about sharks and tornadoes to 500 movie theatres for midnight screenings on Aug. 2. Course we don't have any Regal theatres near Basement headquarters so fuck my life. When the film was broadcast earlier this month, #sharknado registered about 5,000 tweets per minute and accumulated more than 600,000 social media mentions. Tickets are available at the box office, online and through the Regal App. Check here for a list of participating theatres. And watch the trailer below to understand why this is must-see Basement cinema. If anyone can send a Christmas version of this classic our way, you can find us at basementreviews@gmail.com. We'll be forever grateful. Source: Shock Till You Drop
