John Fallon produced Sweet Pain acquired by Leomark Studios

It's been a while since we talked about the Giallo-inspired thriller Sweet Pain, AKA Dolorosa Giola, a film I quite enjoyed, as this review attests. But we've got some good news for Gonzalo Lopez's flick, which had a successful theatrical run in its country of origin, Spain. Co-produced by John Fallon via his Bruise Productions, Sweet Pain will now hit North American screens thanks to Leomark Studios, which recently acquired the film. Congrats to all involved on that one! In the words of Lopez himself: "Our thriller, Sweet Pain, was actually loosely inspired by the tragic life of Renaissance music composer Carlo Gesualdo. Our story is set in the present day though. Given the subject matter, we have decided not to use dialogue to strengthen the universal theme of our story. As a result, the imagery and music is the language we use to tell our tale. By taking such a bold direction, the road to a North American release has been a challenging one, and I'm ela...

Sweet Pain comes to Spain

Review: Sweet Pain AKA Dolorosa Gioia

I was warned going into Sweet Pain, the latest from John Fallon's Bruise Productions, that I was in for a highly compelling art-house film. With that in mind, and knowing right out the gate this wouldn't satiate my Friday night blood lust, I forwent an evening watch with beer and whisky, and opted to give director Gonzalo Lopez's Giallo-inspired flick a morning viewing accompanied by a cup of tea. That's right: a cup of tea. Wanna fight about it?

The Sweet Pain and Woodland Grey trailers

Jay here, returning to The Basement after a busy week filling in as host of  The Shane Woodford Show on Radio NL. Was a great time, and I must offer huge thanks to my bro Mike S for keeping some daily content going here at We Came from the Basement. But I'm back, and I would be remiss to end our week without sharing a few trailers for films our brother-from-another-mother John Fallon is involved in. One big release from his Bruise Productions and another produced by Frankly Films and himself.
