Knights of Badassdom, Zero Charisma and Back to Frank Black

The nerd black hole is a place Jason and Shawn have visited several times during The Basement's storied history. It's a place where things become so nerdy, even the coolest people can be nerded out by how nerdy it is. Such is the case with the movies on the chopping block this week. Both involve the world of dungeons, dragons, dice and rubber-foam swords. That's right, these movies are all about role-playing, and not the kind with hot chicks and kink.

The Knights of Badassdom are coming in February

It's been nary two years since we last spoke of Joe Lynch 's horror/comedy The Knights of Badassdom , but word has it Basementites will finally see the flick Feb. 21. Now, we in The Basement admit we haven't kept peeps as up to date on the film as we should. Apparently Lynch's version won't be released. We're getting an inferior cut allegedly stolen by the distributor. We can neither confirm nor deny this What we do know is the preview below looks awesome, and those who've seen Lynch's cut say it is equally so. Hopefully we'll get to see his version some day. Until then, prepare thyself to catch The Knights of Badassdom on VOD . Live-action role players conjure up a demon from Hell by mistake and they must deal with the consequences. That's what they get for LARPing, if you ask me. The Knights of Badassdom stars Ryan Kwanten , Steve Zahn , Summer Glau , and Peter Dinklage . Meet the Knights of Badassdom

Now this is what The Wild Hunt should have been! Those who regularly listen to the awesomeness that is our show know that Shawn and I are violently opposed to Live Action Role-playing . . . for too many reasons than we can list here. If it's your thing fine, just don't force it on us. But we'll watch comedic horror movies about it for sure. Especially when they star Summer Glau of Firefly fame, Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage, Ryan Kwanten (Red Hill) and Community's Danny Pudi. The plot: live-action role players conjure up a demon from hell by mistake and must deal with the consequences. Shenanigans ensue. This looks like fun, Summer Glau gets better looking every year, and who doesn't dig some Pudi. And yes, this will be reviewed on a future episode. No word yet on a release date though. Movie Round Up: Reviews of Sahara and the first 22 minutes of Date Night

Jason here with reviews of two movies watched during a smoky, drunken Thursday night. Well, I lie. It's only a review and a bit as I couldn't sit through even 30 minutes of Date Night. Guess the rating on that one. Sahara is a wannabe Indiana Jones style adventure that just can't cut it. Based on Clive Cussler's classic adventure novel of the same name, the film offers boat chases, gunfights and stunts galore, but to minimal effect. Unlike Raiders of the Lost Ark, which this movie wants desperately to be, there's nothing here to engage the brain along with the eyeballs.Yes, Penelope Cruz is gorgeous and Steve Zahn makes a great sidekick, but Matthew McConaughey is no Harrison Ford. In the end, Sahara isn't a total waist of time, but I can't recommend it either. A Bad review from The Basement on this one. Twenty-two minutes in and I hadn't even cracked a smile. Fuck you, Date Night! I'd rate you an Ugly, but I need to see all of you to form a...
