Into the MCU: "Iron Man 2" (2010)

It's Wednesday again, and you know what that means, right? Right!  It's time for another sojourn into the Marvel Cinematic Universe!  This week's trip takes us to 2010's " Iron Man 2 "... Tony Stark discovers that the miniature arc reactor that's keeping him alive is actually slowly killing him.  Growing reckless and more morose as he contemplates dying, he searches for an alternative. Meanwhile, a ghost from his father's past comes forth with the intention of getting revenge for the sins of the father... While I wouldn't say that " Iron Man 2 " is as good as the first one, it is still a fairly solid movie for the franchise.  You can see that the actual building blocks of the MCU are starting to be put in place before the big team-up movie, " The Avengers ".  I loved that the story is much more character based than action based than many comic book movies- and deals with some pretty serious themes, such as facing our ...

Sunday Night at the Movies: Poltergeist (2015)

Remakes. Bah! Who needs them? Clearly the Hollywood studio system and it's lack of fucks for original ideas. But not all remakes are bad. In fact, many -- those that bring something new to the table -- are pretty good, if not excellent. Tobe Hooper's Poltergeist is a sacred cow among horror fans though. It's the epitome of 80s horror, with state of the art visual effects, likeable characters, and kids in jeopardy -- something you just don't see anymore. In fact, it's a pretty kid friendly movie for its type. So how does Gil "Monster House" Kenan's riff on the classic rate? Is it one of the good or bad remakes? Stick with me!

Another Poltergeist trailer hits the web

I'm gonna come right out and say it, I'm kinda jazzed for Gil Kenan's Poltergeist remake. Yeah, it's a remake, but so far everything I've seen -- from the posters to the initial preview -- feel right. And the dude directed Monster House, which is one of the most un-kid friendly kid's movies in recent memory. And let's face it, the movie's coming out in just over a month. It exists, so let's judge it based on its own terms. We'll always have the original.

Filming underway on Poltergeist remake

For those who care, the Sam Raimi/Robert Tapert produced Poltergeist remake started shooting earlier this week in Toronto . No one cares? OK. How about the production adding Touch actress Saxon Sharbino (pictured) to the cast as the eldest daughter of the Bowen family? Less not caring? OK. Tell the truth, I've never seen Touch so can't comment on her acting ability . . . or age for that matter. The new Poltergeist follows the Bowen family as they are terrorized, and their youngest child disappears, when a supernatural force takes over their home. Gil Kenan directs from a script by David Lindsay-Abaire . Poltergeist hits theatres next year. Jason versus Seven Psychopaths

A struggling screenwriter inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends kidnap a gangster's beloved Shih Tzu.  And it must be pointed out that the screenwriter is an alcoholic. And Irish. I'm half Irish. And have oddball friends, write screenplays and enjoy the sauce. This is like my biopic. Seriously, this is a fun fucking movie. Our 2nd Unit Podcast Network colleague Jon Cross summed it up best: Waits. Bunny rabbit. Walken. Two guns. Graveyard. Nuff said. Awesome. Seven Psychopaths is all this and more. For one, Colin Farrell is brilliant here. The man rocks in ensemble pieces. Too bad he can't carry a movie on his own. Sam Rockwell is the true star though. He owns this. So does the God Who Walks As A Man, Christopher Walken . And Tom Waits . Hell, they're all good. One complaint: the uber sexy Olga Kurylenko only gets about three minutes of screen time. This is bad. Otherwise, Seven Psychopaths ...
