John Fallon, The Shelter and Frightfest

As I write this, Shawn and I should be chatting with our bro, writer/director John Fallon, about his brilliant flick The Shelter and its pending screening at London's Frightfest on Friday, Aug. 28. But, alas, life has conspired against us once again. It's out of our realm of control. These things happens. So what we'll do is connect with John when he gets back from the U.K., drink a few brews, talk about the movie's reception at Frightfest, and what lies ahead for The Shelter and the man who made it.

Retro Review: Bad Moon

Before Twilight neutered vampires and werewolves there were a string of movies that made the iconic monsters scary. When it comes to werewolves, Eric Red 's Bad Moon is a flick horror fans mention often as an underrated genre classic. I caught the Michael Pare vehicle when it hit VHS back in the mid 90s and dug it then. How does the movie hold up some 20 years later? Stick with me!

Doctor Who meets Sherlock Holmes on a Dark Journey

Here's something us Basementites don't get to talk about all that often -- podcasts! Which is funny given that we're, you know, a podcast. And fans of Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes will be delighted -- that's right, I said delighted -- to know the characters join forces in a new series of podcasts called Doctor Who: Dark Journey.

Robert Downey Jr. to produce horror comedy Cloaked

I'm sure I speak for almost everyone on the planet when I say Robert Downey Jr. can do it all. Sure, there's naysayers, but they are few and far between. The man's a great actor and movie star , and seems like a wicked cool guy to boot. Now Downey Jr. has put his star power behind a new supernatural horror comedy called Cloaked , which he's producing along with his wife Susan Downey . Suffice to say, the project instantly has my interest.

A tease for 24: Live Another Day

God bless the Super Bowl and its awesome commercials. This is one that slipped under my radar, but fans of the long-running Keifer Sutherland series 24 -- and they are legion -- are probably all over this. The 12-episode event series 24: Live Another Day debuts May 5, and brings back action hero Jack Bauer , who battled terrorists for eight season on the Emmy winning series.

Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman up for London Has Fallen

And yes, fictional U.S. president Aaron Eckhart joins Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman for the sequel to the surprise hit Olympus Has Fallen . Given the title, one can assume our heroes have left the White House for London, England , and not London, Ont. The flick kicks off with an attack on London during the British prime minister 's funeral, which is attended by Butler's U.S. Secret Service agent, the U.S. president (Eckhart) and the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives (Freeman). Some in The Basement didn't like Olympus Has Fallen (talking about YOU Matt Bellamy ) but I appreciated it for it's brutal, 80s-style violence and sensibilities. In fact, the whole movie felt like an 80s action flick, so why not give it an 80s-style sequel? And let's face it, Olympus Has Fallen made $160 million worldwide on a $70-million budget. Bitch made some coin. No word yet on whether or not director Antoine Fuqua returns for more mayhem. Given he's a...

Will Star Wars: Episode VII be A New Dawn?

That's the latest rumour floating around the Interwebs anyway. I'm pretty sure we'll get a lot more potential titles between now and the flick's premiere in 2015. But as of right this minute, the new Star Wars is called A New Dawn. Possibly. That said, I like it a hell of a lot more than The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones . There's a nice ring to it, and A New Dawn harkens back to the subtitle of the original Star Wars , A New Hope . What is known is sets are currently under construction at Pinewood Studios in London, England . That's right -- sets! Old school sets. Like was used in the original trilogy. How about that? Among those sets is a partial mockup of the Millennium Falcon . Bad ass. Anyway, enough spreading rumours for one day. Shawn and I have a September special to record. Sam Raimi to write Evil Dead 4 this summer

Sit down and take a deep breath, nerds, the unthinkable might actually be happening -- another Evil Dead movie. No, not a reboot or remake, but an actual Evil Dead 4 . Written by Sam Raimi . And his bro. Believe it! Raimi is in London doing a press event for Oz the Great and Powerful and, when The Evil Dead was mentioned, this is what the man had to say: "I would love to make Evil Dead 4 . My brother and I plan to work on the script this summer."    Does this mean an actual Evil Dead 4 will see the light of day? Nope. But, if it does, that'll be two series of Evil Dead movies in theatres at the same time, given the remake that hits next month. I have no opinion on this whatsoever. In fact, I'll believe it when I see it. If we ever see it. All I can say is no Ash + no Bruce Campbell = no Evil Dead. Arnold Schwarzenegger will be in Terminator 5

Never mind that no one bothered to go watch Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand this past weekend, the Austrian Oak will return to the franchise that made him a superstar -- The Terminator . We say shame to all of you who ignored The Last Stand, by the way. Shame! Arnold is quoted as saying so during a recent press junket in London for The Last Stand. He also told the media he's scheduled for the Twins sequel, Triplets, and another Conan movie. Even at 65, the man knows how to stay busy. The question now is what role will Schwarzenegger play in the latest Terminator, which is being penned by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis . Not that it really matters, the man's involvement makes this a must see, Terminator: Salvation be damned.
