Much like the ways the constellations travel across the sky in a regular rhythm, Tuesdays flow across the calendar with steady certainty. Which means it's time again to warp across the galaxy with another " Star Trek " movie.  This week we  beam into 2013's " Star Trek Into Darkness ". A mysterious stranger has declared war on Starfleet.  His capture by the crew of the Enterprise thrusts Kirk, and Spock into the middle of a conspiracy... One that could destroy Starfleet and give rise to one of Kirk's greatest foes ... This movie takes the kinetic energy of the first one and builds on it beautifully.  It is fast paced, exciting, and fun.  There is also a lot more dramatic moments in this one as well, which I absolutely loved as it only served to add to the humanity of this version. It was a joy to see how Kirk and Spock grew as characters in this movie.  Not just as individuals- but as friends and comrades.  This movie really added a lot of depth...

One of the adjustments my wife and I made when we became parents and a one-income family was putting the brakes on regular trips to the multiplex, which wasn't easy given A) we both love movies and B) I review them for The Basement. Fortunately, opportunities like Mike S's birthday come along, affording The Basement's head Twit and I the chance to boldly go where most moviegoers have gone by now. Star Trek Into Darkness is just weeks away, and we're all pretty jazzed to see it here in The Basement. It's Star Trek, dammit. Only sexy. And exciting. And, if the title is any indication, a wee bit dark. A lot of attention has been paid to Benedict Cumberbatch 's villain, who promises to be seriously bad to the ass whether he's Khan or not. But what about the blond hottie of the group? Her name is Carol, and all indications point to her being Dr. Carol Marcus , who we all know and love as Kirk's former flame in Start Trek II: The Wrath of Khan .
