Shawn and Underworld: Awakening

Kate Beckinsale . In tight leather . With sharp fangs. Yup. Another installment in the underworld series. This one, man, discovers the truth of Vampires and Lycans , treats it as a disease and attempts to eradicate both. Then set 12 years after the 'cleansing'.  Obviously, that didn't work and we get to see Beckinsale in the tight leathers, kick some ass, both human and lycan. Most of these Underworld movies run quite parallel, in my opinion. Not one standing out as better than the other...could really just be one long-ass movie. That said, these are all a Good to me.  This one included. But this one rides a bit finer line..Vampires, Werewolves and gore.  Leave the lovey dovey stuff to "Twilight" and it's fans... Jason versus Total Recall (2012)

Gotta hand it to Colin Farrell, the dude has been lucky enough to star in two of the most unnecessary remakes of all time, yet both have been better than film fans deserve. Props to you, sir. And this time you get to make nice with two of the hottest women on the planet -- Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel. Well played, Colin. Well played. A factory worker, Douglas Quaid, begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall -- a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led -- goes wrong and he finds himself on the run. As far as remakes go, this is pretty decent. It holds true to the original film -- which was itself an adaptation of Philip K.Dick's We Can Remember It For Your Wholesale -- while bringing new elements to the table, including an Earthbound resistance plot and bad to the ass set design. Did I mention it stars Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel, two of the hottest women on the planet? It does. Well pla...

George Bell reviews Van Helsing

I've watched Van Helsing three times now, and while I keep finding things to like here and there, it just doesn't come together as a whole. I really, really wanted to like it more than I do. I'm a fan of Stephen Sommers, and I see what he was trying to do. He wanted to make one big homage to the classic Universal monsters (Frankenstein, Dracula, etc.). That's a noble sentiment, but when ambition outstretches the material, it's time to re-evaluate. Sadly, the changes that I think needed to happen never materialized, and we're left with this mess of a monster movie gone wrong. Van Helsing's biggest mistake is how much ground it tries to cover in terms of combining all these different elements from separate stories. The basic plot centers around Dracula using Dr. Frankenstein and his monster to figure out how to create and sustain life. Dracula and his three brides have tried - and failed - to make their offspring viable, but nature just wasn't hav...

Colin Farrell Vs. Kate Beckinsale in this Total Recall clip

Yeah, I know: we're unimaginative twats for posting film clips two days in a row. But hey, at least they're not from the same movie! Right? Today we've got a look at a fight scene from Len Wiseman's Total Recall remake, and it's looking pretty slick. The scene takes place after Doug Quaid (Colin Farrell) returns from a failed visit to Rekall. He thinks he's going to get sympathy from his wife (Kate Beckinsale) but he doesn't, because then we wouldn't be able to watch a fight scene. The plot: a factory worker begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall - a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led.  Total Recall hits theatres Aug. 3.

Jason reviews Underworld: Awakening

There's a lot of reasons to love the Underworld series, a leather-clad Kate Beckinsale being chief among them. But there's also non-sparkly vampires, werewolves, violent gunplay and ass kicking up the wazoo. This fourth entry has all of the above in spades. Yet, for whatever reason, it also feels the most hollow of the four films. Not that I went in expecting Shakespeare or anything. But something was missing. A certain je ne sais quoi. Which makes it the weakest of the bunch. That said, it did have a leather-clad Kate Beckinsale, non-sparkly vampires, werewolves, violent gunplay and ass kicking up the wazoo. Should I complain? No. Will I watch this again, and other entries in the Underworld films? Yes. So Underworld: Awakening gets a Good from this Basement Dweller. And shout out to Bedlam's Theo James for getting decent role in this action flick.

The Total Recall trailer remembers you

Did that make sense? No. Too bad! We brought you the teaser for the trailer for the Total Recall reboot/remake/second telling earlier this week. Now it's time to deliver the real deal: a trailer that isn't afraid to be a trailer. For your eye holes. I dug the teaser for the trailer well enough. Shawn pointed out on our season finale that it looked too much like The Fifth Element. I agreed. Now, seeing a full two-plus minutes, Len Wiseman's film looks less Fifth Element (save for the flying cars) and more like the 1990's take sans Mars. But it still has Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel and some pretty kick ass looking action scenes. And Colin Farrell is well suited to the hero role. My wife and I have pledged to see this. It's been a long time since the world has been granted a decent sci-fi/action flick. Hopefully this delivers. We'll let you view the trailer and decide for yourselves. Total Recall opens August 3.

The teaser for the Total Recall remake trailer

Seems teaser trailers for trailers are all the rage recently. It's like an appetizer for the appetizer so to speak. Hey, whatever gets yah interested I guess. As much as I hate to say it, I really like what I see here. Not so much a remake of the beloved 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger film as it is another take on Philip K. Dick's short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, the Len Wiseman directed sci-fi/action flick stars Colin Farrell in the role of Doug Quaid, a factory worker who begins to suspect he is a spy caught up in futuristic resistance movement. Starring alongside Farrell is Wiseman's wife and No. 1 hottie in the world, Kate Beckinsale. Jessica Biel, who is no ugly duckling either, also stars. Two hotties for the price of one? I'd buy that for a dollar! Total Recall invades theatres Aug. 3 and the full trailer for the movie arrives on Sunday. Stick with us!

Kate Beckinsale in 3D

There is really only one way I'd pay three extra dollars to see a 3D movie these days and the makers of the Underworld franchise figured it out. I owe them a Coke. I've always enjoyed this series and so does my wife. When a new one comes out it's a date night for us, so we've already marked Jan. 20, 2012 down on our calendar. The films are reliable, B-grade fun and the fact that Beckinsale is back after sitting out the last installment is certainly a draw.  What it's about doesn't matter. There's vampires and werewolves, neither are emo pussies, and one of the world's most beautiful women is kicking ass while dressed in leather. If you don't get it, go home! Underworld: Awakening is directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein and stars Beckinsale, Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley and Charles Dance.

Beckinsale is back in the Underworld

When is a picture news? When it features the lovely Kate Beckinsale back in a full leather bodysuit as Selene from the Underworld series. Below is the first official glimpse/still/whatever from Underworld: New Dawn 3D, which is filming right now in Vancouver. The picture tells us nothing except Beckinsale is back and looking hotter than ever. But really, do we need to know much more? Underworld: New Dawn is directed by Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein from a script by J. Michael Straczynski and John Hlavin. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Bloody Disgusting previously reported the film will introduce audiences to Selene's hybrid Lycan/vampire daughter.  The film arrives in theaters January 20, 2012. And I've enjoyed the series enough so far to pay three extra dollars to see the latest installment at the theatre.
