Jason versus Baby Driver

If you're anything like me, and treat every experience behind the wheel as a high-speed chase, you'd best not put your key in the ignition for a good 30 minutes after watching Baby Driver. No, you're not going to want to drive into a cliff or anything. Not if you love good music and cinema. No. You see, not since Speed have I wanted to put the pedal to the metal so badly after seeing a movie.

Jason versus The World's End

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and writer/director Edgar Wright hit comedy gold with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Do the comedic trio score a hat trick with their latest effort? Stick with me! Five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind's only hope for survival. First off no, this isn't as funny as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz. Which isn't to say that it isn't hilarious or equally as entertaining. But The World's End isn't a laugh riot, although it is pretty damn funny. Reading my email? The World's End is more reflective; it's a study of one hitting middle age with a career, wife and kids -- or, as is the case with Pegg's character, hitting middle age with none of the above -- and looking back on your youth and dreams for the future and how it all sorted out. It's also a movie about aliens taking over the world. For the record. Suffice to say, The World's End ...

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost take on The World's End

That's right, the stars of such genre-comedy greats as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz have re-teamed with writer/director Edgar Wright for another foray into cinematic awesomeness with The World's End. Yeah, it's another end-of-the-world comedy that features rowdy friends and binge drinking -- I of course make reference to the equally awesome looking This Is the End starring Seth Rogen and James Franco -- but this is Pegg , Frost and Wright, dammit. It demands to be seen! Five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind's only hope for survival. Rounding out the cast are Martin Freeman , he of The Hobbit and Sherlock fame, and hottie Rosamund Pike . So if you're unwilling to see the flick for the genius of Pegg, Frost and Wright, at least come out for the pretty British lady. The World's End opens Aug. 23.   The World’s End - exclusive trailer">Video: The World’s End ...

Aliens are ready to Attack the Block

More and more often it seems we have to look overseas to find cool, fun and creepy genre efforts. And it's great when we encounter one that looks to be all of the above. Joe Cornish's Attack the Block is an alien invasion horror/comedy about a gang of South London teenagers defending their housing project home against an alien attack. And it looks wicked cool, with the right balance of scares, action and humour that made 80s movies like Fright Night and The Monster Squad so hip.  Yes, that's Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz's Nick Frost among the group. This is also from the producers of Shaun. We've got the trailer for you below and suggest you give it a view. And trust me when I say Shawn and I will be doing a review of this film as soon as we can get our mitts on a copy.
