Safety's Off: "Lethal Weapon" (1987)

After taking a short break after my " Run, Bandit, Run " series, I'm back.  This time, I'm taking aim... with a " Lethal Weapon "... 50 year old Sergeant Murtaugh has a nice home, a lovely family, a new fishing boat, and a fairly safe career... Sergeant Rigs has a motor home, memories of his deceased wife, a risky career... and a "special" bullet for a "special" occasion... When they get partnered up, it becomes a question of who'll get the "special" bullet in the end... 1987's " Lethal Weapon " helped to transform the Buddy Cop movie from a genre that was generally comedic to one that had action, humor, and depth of character. The story is pretty 1980's in that it consisted of drug cartels- which was the real hot topic back then due to Nancy Reagan's " Just Say No " campaign.  But it's really only the bones from which hangs the real "flesh" of the movie- the relationship betwe...

Jason and Shawn versus Bounty Killer and I Declare War

Bounty Killer Jason: I am madly in lust with Mary Death, AKA Christian Pitre. She's one bad ass chick and looks dead sexy in every shot she's in. And although exceptionally hot, I still believed she could kick all that ass. Kudos to her. Bounty Killer does overstay it's welcome a bit. And Gary Busey is underused, although he was probably drunk and/or high for most of the filming. But I'd still watch this again. There's been few movies in the last year that have been as violent, bloody, funny and sexy as this. Which is to say I was highly entertained by this flick. It's a Good. Shawn: Now here is a movie that is geared for adults in every way, shape and form. Did I dig this post apocalyptic business killing dreamland? You betcha, I had a great time....for one watch. I'll give it a Bad, but it was much closer to a Good than some. It dragged on a tad too long, tried to tie in too much story in a movie that was mostly straight forward. I wouldn...

New Bounty Killer trailer keeps the killing alive

I've heard really good buzz about Bounty Killer out of the Fantasia International Film Festival this year, especially from our boys over at Arrow in the Head, so this has become an instant must see in The Basement's books. Why? Post apocalyptic wasteland, rampant violence, hot chicks kicking ass and Gary Busey, that's why! This low-budget flick -- directed by Henry Saine and starring Matthew Marsden, Kristanna Loken and Christian Pitre -- hits VOD on Sept. 6 and DVD Oct. 29, just in time for Season Five. As for the long and short of the plot, read below: It’s been 20 years since the corporations took over the world’s governments. Their thirst for power and profits led to the corporate wars, a fierce global battle that laid waste to society as we know it. Born from the ash, the Council of Nine rose as a new law and order for this dark age. To avenge the corporations’ reckless destruction, the Council issues death warrants for all white collar cri minals. The...
