Short film Familiar headed to a festival near you

If any of you were listening to us last season you'll know that we have mad love for the Fatal Pictures short film Familiar. A horror story through and through, Familiar is about a middle-aged man who suspects that the negative impulses he feels are not his own. It's some of the most intense 25 minutes ever put on film.  To prove it to you, here's the trailer: FATAL PICTURES presents FAMILIAR (2011) The Teaser from Zach Green on Vimeo .   Some of you Basement Dwellers will have the chance to check out director Richard Powell and producer Zach Green's film as Familiar is set to screen at a number of festivals. We've included the list below.  Now get your asses out there and support this film. Familiar screenings, and a clip!

Short films have become kinda our thing here in The Basement, and few have rocked Shawn and I quite like Zach Green and Richard Powell's Familiar. Shawn and I reviewed Familiar a couple of months back. Now, at Zach's request, we've got a clip to share and word on how you can see this bad boy on the big screen! That's right, Familiar screens at Chicago Fear Fest on April 13 and 14, Texas Frightmare Weekend May 4, 5 and 6 and at the Dark Bridges Film Festival from May 3 to 6. I'm gonna shut up now and let you watch the clip. And I encourage anyone who can make the above dates to give Familiar a view. It's worth the trip!

Jason and Shawn review: Skew and Familiar

Skew Jason: I love movies that fuck with you, and Skew fucks with you. Is what's happening real? In the cameraman's brain? Or is something wrong with the camera itself? That's what Skew is all about, Charlie Brown! Skew is more about psychological horror than visceral thrills, although there are a few of those. The viewer's task is figuring out the link between what is happening and what is happening on camera. You have to work a bit to enjoy this movie. If you're up to the task, you'll have a fun ride. Simon, the cameraman, unnerved me almost as much as the killer in The Poughkeepsie Tapes. I'm giving Skew a Good and encourage horror fans to watch it. Shawn: Hello found-footage movie. I’m about done with these now. Truly. With that said, at least this was a decently entertaining story. For my last unbiased review of a “footage” movie, I’m glad it was this one. You better make one hell of a found footage movie to pull me out of retirement. This was a l...

Horror is about to get Familiar

Got an email in our inbox from producer Zach Green of Fatal Pictures giving us the skinny on a new horror short he's about to unleash upon the world -- Familiar. And boy does it look like it's going to be good and bloody! Written and directed by Richard Powell with gobs of the red stuff courtesy of Ryan Louagie's FX's, Familiar tells the story of a middle age man who, through a series of tragic events, grows to suspect the negative impulses plaguing his mind might not be his own. Cryptic? Yes, as is the teaser below. But we've got a screener of this little horror find en route to The Basement and we'll be interviewing Green and Powell early in the new year, so you'll be able to hear much more about Familiar in 2012. And you'll hear it in The Basement. In the meantime, enjoy the preview. It gave me chills during its short running time. Looking forward to seeing the final film!
