Showing posts with the label David Lynch

Insomniac Theatre: "Dune" (1984)

It's 2:30 am, the summer night breeze is wafting through the open balcony door as the distant, lonely sound of a train floats mournfully as it passes. And I find myself watching David Lynch's 1984 film, " Dune "- based on Frank Herbert's novel of the same name.

A pair of Scarlett Johansson's assets on display in new Under the Skin poster

I honestly couldn't think of a better headline than that. Sexist yes. Sue me. It's late. But this new poster for Jonathan Glazer 's sci-fi flick Under the Skin does show off Scarlett Johansson 's lovely legs. I know most of you thought boobs right off the bat. But no, it's her legs.

Acclaimed French short Coupe Court will blow your mind

Not the catchiest of headlines, but there's no other way to explain the brilliantly bizarre short flick I just watched. Written and directed by Pascal Chind, Coupe Court (Short Cut) is best described as a David Lynchesque fantasy/love story. But even that doesn't do it justice. It's weird, but I couldn't take my eyes off it. And it's big in France, where it's the most broadcast short in French TV history. The plot: for Tom, when it comes to big love, size doesn't matter. But for Françoise, the woman he loves, it might. If the woman doesn't weigh up the consequences of her actions, other people might solve the little disagreement. Watch, and judge for yourselves, Basementites! Coupé Court (SHORT CUT : select "EN" on screen... by CoupeCourt-lefilm Coupe Court stars Karen Alyx, Jean-Paul Bernard, Chris Egloff, Christophe Fluder and Jean-Francois Lam. Big thanks to Anna Brooke for bringing Coupe Court to our attention! Sha...

M. Night Shyamalan Moving to TV with "Wayward Pines" Series

Mike S here again, this time with some TV horror touchie feelies.  Well, maybe not, but this is still entertainment news, found on " Bloody Disgusting "... so deal with it. Many film goers were impressed with M. Night Shyamalan's work on " The Sixth Sense ".  Many were eager to see what he would come up with next after " Unbreakable ".  Then fans started to cool off after, " Signs ", " The Village ", " The Woman in the Water ", and " The Happening ". This may have proven to be a factor in his decision to move to the small screen and produce " Wayward Pines " based on " Pines " by Blake Crouch.  Reading the synopsis of the series on " Bloody Disgusting ," I can't escape the feeling we've been there before: After two federal agents have disappeared, a secret service agent is sent to a small down to investigate.  As he digs deeper into the mystery, strange events begin ...

Watch John Fallon's The Red Hours

Those who listened to our exclusive interview with John Fallon -- AKA The Arrow of Arrow In the Head -- a few weeks back (and I would assume that'd be all of you) likely remember him talking about the experience he had making his short film The Red Hours. Well, we here in The Basement have that short film for your viewing pleasure. Fallon has said it's an artsy film, heavy and symbolic, with horror conventions. Think David Lynch and you're on the right track. I dug it, and I'm not huge on Lynch. But the less I say the better. Just watch it! Thanks to Fallon for letting us embed his film here: The Red Hours from John Fallon on Vimeo .
