Marcus Flor revisits Evil Dead 2

When it comes to horror/comedy, it's hard to beat Evil Dead 2 (1987). It's the fantastic blend of monster FX and dark humour that makes it so much fun. A lot of that is thanks to director Sam Raimi, but also the star of the show, Bruce Campbell, as the excellent Ash Williams. This film is essentially watching Ash be tormented in a cabin for an hour and a half, so he's got the whole movie to carry. Luckily, Bruce pulls it off, creating a brash but likeable everyman that you can get behind. Now, good 'ole Bruce isn't the only high note here. There are some excellent special effects to behold. While they can be cheesy or dated at times, they always have a particular charm that perfectly works with this movie's tone. Occasionally, they're even effective in the opposite direction, successfully creeping you out. Well there you have it, I've told you why a classic is a classic. If you've somehow never seen it, bring friends and/or alcohol and have...

My Two Bits: Ash vs Evil Dead Season 1, Ep 1

Ever have one of those moments where you can't believe what you're watching? Not because what you're watching is bad? Oh no. The other kind of moment. The kind where you can't believe your eye holes are witnessing something you've dreamt about for so long. Such is the case with Starz new Ash vs Evil Dead TV series. THIS is the sequel fans of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series have yearned for since Army of Darkness. And it's not a reboot or reimagining, it's a direct follow up to those genre classics from 30 years ago, and it's . . . GROOVY!

The MONTH of HORROR - Day 28: Army of Darkness

It is amazing that this movie was even made. I've seen it countless times however during this most recent viewing I was really struck by how much of a miracle it is that this thing ever got a major release. Clearly, a lot has changed in Hollywood in the last 20 years because now I can't imagine anything like 'Army of Darkness' ever being given the green light. Based on a horror series that never exactly lit the box office on fire, and starring a lead actor only really known to cult film fans, it had to have either been a leap of faith on the studio's part, or possibly a favor owed to director Sam Raimi after the success of 'Darkman'--probably a combination of both.

Army of Darkness 2 a no go

Just weeks ago we posted a story -- along with every other movie news site on the web -- that a sequel to Army of Darkness is in the works and Bruce Campbell is on board. In fact, if you check our story , he confirms it. Even Robert Tapert , Sam Raimi and Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez have been quoted as saying, at one time or another, that Army of Darkness 2 is happening. Apparently it's all bullshit, according to what Campbell said today: “ It’s all Internet b.s. – there’s no reality whatsoever.  These random comments slip out of my mouth or Sam Raimi’s mouth, next thing you know, we’re making a sequel “. As much as I'd be up for another Army of Darkness, I'm not heartbroken at there not being one either. But Campbell, Tapert and Raimi have gone a long way to fielding these rumours, so they need to take some of the blame for stories popping up online. Calling it Internet B.S. is, well, B.S. What say you, Basementites? You care if Army of Darkn...

Bruce Campbell up for Army of Darkness 2

It's no secret Sam Raimi and his brother, Ivan, are writing Evil Dead 4 or Army of Darkness 2 or whatever the Powers That Be want to call the film if it ever gets made. But the big question has been whether or not Bruce Campbell wants to do it. The word, apparently, is yes. Campbell was asked if he'd make Army of Darkness 2 while at World Wizard Comic Con in Nashville and confirmed he is indeed down with returning to the role of Ash . Instead of transcribing what he said, we're gonna let you hear the man speak: Groovy! I like how Campbell dealt with the question, pointing out it's been 22 years since Army of Darkness and that he's no spring chicken. I don't know if another Evil Dead/Army of Darkness movie would work or not, but if they can bring back Indiana Jones , Rambo, Rocky and John McClane , why not Ash? Jason versus Evil Dead (2013)

Shawn and I have bitched and bitched again about the number of remakes coming out of Hollywood , and we've been more than vocal about our dislike of an Evil Dead remake, reboot or rewhateverthefuckitis. But all the bitching in the world won't stop Hollywood from making movies like the new Evil Dead, nor will a generation that's never heard of the original stop paying to see them. With that in mind, yours truly ventured to the multiplex on a very busy Saturday night to see Fede Alvarez 's spin on the Sam Raimi classic. It was my duty to see this movie so you don't have to. Five friends head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods. The evil presence possesses them until only one is left to fight for survival. Evil Dead (2013) is The Bourne Legacy of the Evil Dead franchise. It doesn't need to exist, no one asked for it, yet it's surprisingly good for wh...

Darkness falls, evil rises . . . on What Movie Wednesday

It's What Movie Wednesday time again. And that can only mean one thing, that Mike S over at The Corner of Terror is prepared to take on one of the potentially shitty movies on the list below in 140 characters or less. It's a gift. This week, The S is willing to torment himself with a trio of flicks about the moon, blood and werewolves. Hey, why not? They are: 1. Blood Bound (2006) 2. Moon of the Wolf (1972) 3. Dr. Jekyll and the Werewolf (1972) Get on over to The Corner of Terror group page or fan page on Facebook and vote. Voting closes at 6:30 p.m. PST and the tweet along at @TerrorCorner begins at 7 p.m. PST. Source: The Corner of Terror Related articles Evil Dead - Sam Raimi Talks the Remake and More! Sam Raimi to write Evil Dead 4 this summer

Sit down and take a deep breath, nerds, the unthinkable might actually be happening -- another Evil Dead movie. No, not a reboot or remake, but an actual Evil Dead 4 . Written by Sam Raimi . And his bro. Believe it! Raimi is in London doing a press event for Oz the Great and Powerful and, when The Evil Dead was mentioned, this is what the man had to say: "I would love to make Evil Dead 4 . My brother and I plan to work on the script this summer."    Does this mean an actual Evil Dead 4 will see the light of day? Nope. But, if it does, that'll be two series of Evil Dead movies in theatres at the same time, given the remake that hits next month. I have no opinion on this whatsoever. In fact, I'll believe it when I see it. If we ever see it. All I can say is no Ash + no Bruce Campbell = no Evil Dead. The Evil Dead in 60 seconds

With all the hullabaloo about the Evil Dead remake permeating our popular culture at the moment I thought it might be fun to take another look at the original classic . . .  in about 60 seconds. That's right, this fan-made version of Sam Raimi 's Evil Dead tells the whole story in one minute. How's that for getting to the heart of the matter? No false advertising in the title: Evil Dead in 60 Seconds . The uber short film is directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero and Luke Bramley, and stars Mark Campbell, Ariel Hansen, Nathan Dashwood, Breann Grainger, and Gigi Saul Guerrero. And it's fucking awesome. A perfect note to end the week on! Have a good one peeps, and enjoy! Bruce Campbell tweets Evil Dead remake's early release

I'm not going to pretend that I understand how all this social media stuff works, but Jebus bless it for giving us all kinds of cool shit to write about. First we got all the sexy pics of hot actresses from Machete Kills strutting their stuff online. Now we've got the crew of the Evil Dead remake tweeting about the film's rating etc. As Ash would say, groovy! Speaking of groovy, Ash himself -- Bruce Fucking Campbell -- tweeted today that the Evil Dead remake will hit a week early. That's April 5 to be exact. Apparently we demanded it. Not sure who "we" are. But there you go. Don't believe me? Check out this screen capture, bitches! There. Who's laughing now!?!?
