Art takes on an evil guise in Mr. Jones

I know guise might be too "smart" a word for us Basementites -- I actually had to look up the meaning -- but it's the only one that worked in the headline. It means form, but form didn't read right. I'd apologize, but we don't do that in The Basement . On to the matter at hand, Mr. Jones is an upcoming found-footage horror flick Anchor Bay will release in May, and it actually looks pretty interesting. Too bad about the whole found-footage thing though.

Anchor Bay plans a February Sorority Party Massacre

Hot chicks , a secluded island and a crazed killer -- sounds like a solid recipe for good 'ole fashioned slasher goodness if you ask me. That's what Anchor Bay has planned when it releases Sorority Party Massacre on Feb. 11, calling Justin Jones and Chris W. Freeman's movie a master class in girls, gore, carnage and comedy. Sold! The official plot deets: “ An isolated town full of sexy college girls has a dangerous secret: one girl has gone missing each year for the last 20 years. A big-city cop, in danger of losing his badge, agrees to aid the town’s sheriff in investigating these unsolved disappearances. Quickly they realize that they are dealing with a psychotic killer whose brilliance has been twisted into a taste for terror, torture and sorority sister torment. But when this party gets started, who will graduate – and who will be held back? ” Sorority Party Massacre stars Tom Downey , Kevin Sorbo , Ed O’Ross, Leslie Easterbrook , Richard Moll , adult...

A slick poster for Dolph Lundgren's Battle of the Damned

"When the battle gets this intense, you've got to bring it to the Max." That has to be the best tagline ever. Why? Because Dolph Lundgren 's hero in the zombies-versus-robots flick Battle of the Damned is named Max Gatling , which also happens to the best name for a character ever. Anywho, Anchor Bay is expected to release writer/director Christopher Hatton 's sci-fi/horror flick later this year, so it's only appropriate we'd see some poster art . And here it is: Slick! Following a deadly viral outbreak, private military soldier Max Gatling leads a handful of survivors and a ragtag band of robots against an army of the infected. "Dolph Lundgren is Max Gatling." Awesome. Dolph Lundgren, killer robots, zombies . . . in German

The headline says it all: Dolph Lundgren in a movie where he battles a horde of zombies with the help of killer robots. And it's dubbed in German . At least this trailer for the upcoming Battle of the Damned is in German. Anchor Bay has most of the rights to writer/director Christopher ( Robotropolis ) Hatton's sci-fi/horror flick, so an English-language version is certainly in the mix somewhere. Dolph, killer robots and zombies work in any language though. Here's what it's all about, in English: following a deadly viral outbreak, private military soldier Max Gatling leads a handful of survivors and a ragtag band of robots against an army of the infected. Yeah, we're on this mofo. The Lords of Salem get an official trailer

Writer/director Rob Zombie 's latest, The Lords of Salem , hits April 19 by way of Anchor Bay Entertainment . And, with the clock ticking down to its release, the studio has seen fit to release an official trailer . Sure, a teaser trailer was issued back in October, and it was way more fucked up. But this is still pretty damn effective, with some great imagery and more hints at what it's all about. And what it's about is residents of Salem, Massachusetts are visited by a 300-year-old coven of witches.Somehow a DJ , Sheri Moon Zombie , gets mixed up in all the creepy shit. We'd be idiots if we weren't looking forward to this one. I've dug all of Zombie's stuff, including his Halloween films. Having him back on his own turf is something to be excited about. Slasher flick Escapee finally comes home

It's been almost two years since we last pimped Campion E Murphy's Escapee here on the site . Now word has finally reached us that the formulaic sounding slasher flick is coming to DVD and Blu-ray later this year. Anchor Bay Entertainment will release Escapee on April 16, just after our current season ends, but well in time for one of our summer specials.  While on a class observation trip at a local mental hospital , young psychology major Abby Jones (Christine Evangelista, pictured), has a chilling encounter with high-risk patient, Harmon ( Dominic Purcell ). She returns home for an evening of normal study with her two roommates unaware of the darkness shes awakened within him. Later that evening a storm moves in, while Harmon escapes leaving a trail of death, as he makes his toward an unsuspecting Abby. Does sound a little been there, done that. But what slasher movie doesn't? We'll reserve judgment for when we eventually see Escapee. Because we ...
